I don’t understand how you can just state your thoughts, let alone say instead of stating that xdj az is compatible with djai pro. It’s so full of bugs that using it makes me want to vomit. The headphone preview doesn’t work, the channel volume sliders crash at random, but how can this company sell smoke and get paid? Shame.
Hi @Beppe85, welcome to the Community! Sorry to hear you’re having issues with the hardware. I’d like to help you troubleshoot these further. To start, can you please share full details about your setup?
Device Model (ex. 2020 iPad Air 4th Gen):
Version of operating system (ex. iOS 17.3.1):
Version of djay (ex. 5.1.3):
Hardware/controllers used (ex. Reloop Ready):
Hardware Firmware Version (ex. 2.7):
- Can you please be more specific about the bugs you’re experiencing?
- With the XDJ-AZ connected to your device, please also share screenshots of your djay Settings>Audio Devices and djay Settings>MIDI Devices pages.
- How exactly are you connecting the XDJ-AZ to you device? Are you using any USB hubs or USB Adapters?
Thanks!

You can’t get the audio track preview on your headphones to work in any way. tried billions of configurations you can’t do anything. The only thing that worked for a few minutes was to launch the audio preview output signal on a mixer channel sacrificing the channel itself from its use as a deck. but after a few moments it no longer worked and the preview returned to the outgoing master, as soon as I turned up the volume of the audio channel dedicated to the preview suddenly separated from the master and returned to the channel. it is full of bugs. look that no professional uses a xdjz az with djai pro here xk no Vete feedback. if you try to Do a simple web search, find lots of complaints that they bought Djai Pro and then abandoned, and all talking about this preview of audio tracks that don’t feel on headphones.
Thanks for the info @Beppe85. Please try the following:
- Connect the XDJ-AZ directly to your Macbook via a high-quality, properly shielded, USB cable with dual ferrites. Do not use any USB Hubs or USB adapters.
- Please then go to the AlphaTheta official support website and download and install the latest Ver. 1.24 XDJ-AZ Firmware: https://alphatheta.com/en/product/all-in-one-dj-system/xdj-az/black/#support
- After updating the firmware and rebooting your device, please launch djay again.
- Once, connected, please navigate to the djay Settings>Devices, expand the drop-down at the bottom and select Reset to Defaults. This will restore the correct audio settings - note that this hardware must be used in External Mixer Mode only.
- Now retest and confirm if any issues persist. If issues do persist, please capture and share a short video to clarify the problems and I can try to assist you further. Thanks!
EDIT: also, I have moved this discussion to its own topic so we can keep the discussion organized.

everything you described has been done many times. the xdj az has the latest firmware version installed. the connection takes place in pure USB C with high fidelity cables. always restored the factory values and nothing has ever changed. ask everyone, any pro user, and tell them why you don’t use djai pro with xdj az? it does not work. I can’t manage the audio track preview on headphones. since your preview is an obstacle course. I would like to know who thought of making all those clicks with the mouse to hear the songs in the software… use the waveform directly to hear it like everyone else? never mind… anyway since you should be a company, the least you should do is check for yourself. also because what video am I sending you? the video that can’t be heard in headphones? I feel like I’m dreaming. you are back to rekordbox and also serato. you have so much potential. but you are behind.
I’m away from home. I’ll try to make a video. although the problem is known to many users. and I believe many people are experiencing the same problem on rekordbox. This is why I believe it is affecting you too. another important thing… EQ adjustments set to the neural mix don’t work. even if you move the adjustment trims they don’t work. I think you have a lot of bugs
Thanks for the additional info @Beppe85. Please note that I personally do not have access to an XDJ-AZ, but I can still help you troubleshoot your issues. We have several users in this community using this hardware with djay. There may in fact be some limitations, but it’s unclear through your text descriptions alone exactly what you’re experiencing. Please share the information requested below first. If I’m unable to help you further, I will at least be able to pass all of this information onto our engineering team on Monday for further review. They have access to the XDJ-AZ and can try two reproduce your issues. The screenshots and videos will greatly help with the process.
- Please share screenshots of your djay Settings>Devices page.
- Please share a video to clarify the problems you’ve been describing to ensure we clearly understand what’s happening. Thank you.
EDIT: It sounds to me like you are trying to use the Track Preview (see below). If so, this is indeed a limitation with the XDJ-AZ as it is an External Mixer Mode device and is missing the necessary hardware feature for djay to route the track preview directly to the headphones. This is common with most external mixer mode devices used with djay. However, normal cueing in the headphones with a song loaded on a deck should work as expected with the XDJ-AZ.
we have come to a conclusion. you can’t do it. now in your opinion, in order to hear a preview, I have to load the song into the deck every time? What do I need to buy a product where full compatibility is declared and this limitation is not reported? to nothing.. technically you are prosecutable by law for misleading advertising and features. that’s why no one uses your programs in clubs or professional systems. with 8000 variations of songs remixes and meshups I don’t have a chance to hear the track first!? I want to dream.
