From the discussion at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/... it looks like the iPad would only be able to _read_ from the external drive and not _write_ to it. How does that impact the possibility of Djay incorporating that as a feature? Any data written by DJay (BMP info, key info, cue points, etc) are all done on the iPad itself anyway, right?

The problem I find is that Djay2 only gives the option to stream music from Spotify and iTunes/cloud to iPad! Unfortunately there is no option to stream music from my existing iTunes library to the iPad! If I want to play a song on my iPad it has to be downloaded in order to do so!... iPad does not have space to make this practical !!! So in order to use DJay2 properly we have to open a spotify account, which is absolutely ridiculous if we already have an iTunes library full of songs!!! I will not be opening a spotify account in order to play songs I already have in my iTunes library!!!

I can fit 18000 songs on my 128GB iPad. Never have problems running out of music for my five hour sets.

if you have a jailbreaked iPad you can connect any usb external drive and access your files with a file manager app called iFile so, it is a way to do it if hackers made it already! please work a way if you want to see users using the iPad on a club!

Any 'solution' that involves the need to jailbreak an iOS device, will never be considered a proper solution -- at least not from the official company's perspective, I'm sure.

For me, jailbreaking is a deal breaker. I will never do it.

I recently found out it's illegal to jailbreak an iPad. You can legally jailbreak an iPhone, but it's deemed illegal for iPads.
In either case, it voids the apple warranty.
I waited until my warranty expired then 'broke my old iPhone. It's quite simple, and can be restored back to normal with no way of tracing if it had ever been jailbroken. There are some useful tweaks, but not enough to make me jailbreak my current phone.. most of the features of standard ios7 incorporate the 'broke tweaks I liked anyway.

How about..

Jailbroken iPad, iFile, The Camera USB adapter mentioned above, and possibly pwntunes to bring the files into your iTunes (without the need to plug into your PC pr Mac)?

I use iFile and pwnTunes on my Jailbroken iPhone to validate music files into my iTunes library, it works well.. surely this would also make the mp3 files available in Djay app?

I've not 'broken my iPad yet but tempted.

There is actually a pretty simple workaround for 'library capacity' and access using the iPad; admittedly, it involves bringing a laptop, but it should work.

If you have your iPad set to 'sync with iTunes over Wi-Fi' & 'Manually manage music & videos' [can be done under the 'Summary' tab for your device in iTunes, in the 'Options' section], you can drag & drop music onto your iPad without having to perform a full sync or be directly connected to the iPad. This will give you the ability to locate requests from your partiers on the laptop and transfer them to the iPad quickly; bring your entire library [in iTunes] and you can play what you need when you need it!

Special Note: You don't need a 'real' Wi-Fi network to do this on a MacBook/Pro- you can use the 'Create Network...' option in the Wi-Fi settings on the laptop, select that newly created network in the iPad's wi-fi settings, the iPad will show up in iTunes and it will work just the same!

In lieu of that option, an alternative (albeit expensive) possibility is to get the latest generation iPad that has 128 GB of storage and use that only for Djay and storing your music library.

I actually considered doing this, but have decided for now to just keep a subset of my music library on my 64 GB iPad2 and use that for as long as I can bear it.

ANY ICLOUD SOLUTION MAYBE?

Perhaps not 100% ideal, but the iCloud solution is already supported through the standard Music app, which you can run in parallel with Djay. That's what I do. I keep a limited library stored on my 64 GB iPad, and when I do need a song from my complete library that's missing on the iPad, I can toggle to the Music app and initiate a download there. Once it's downloaded, Djay is able to load it.

I use djay 2 (iPad) and connect it to my home MyCloud device.

I use the app called filebrowser. When you see the file you want in filebrowser, just click on the list on the right side and choose "open in". Then djay 2 will be one of your choices. It will always load to the open deck.

Works perfectly and no files are stored on your ipad. All are played via the cloud.

Anyone need a video of this? Glad to do it if it will help.

Sorry guys, no longer using this software since there is no support for Denon controllers. I use it occasionally but not willing to create a video for software that seems to be no longer improved upon.

No, there is NO download when using this solution. It works, but I'm looking another solution by using the new 'my files' button in djay 2 wich makes using files on external drives much more comfortable as long as it will not be implemented by algoriddim :-(

Djay 2 support for accessing wireless hard drives.

If this app was capable of accessing a wireless hdd like my patriot gauntlet node, this would be the game changer. It's sad that a free app like file explorer, that I use, accesses my drive, and has an integrated music player! Support SMB.

Sure you need a wireless router? iPad can communicate with the laptop directly, without the need for a separate Wifi network.

Hi Eric, i couldnt get the Ad-hoc method to work between ipad and laptop, done sone research on it and it appears to be a problem. I have used my method using router for my last 2 gigs, both being over 5hrs and didnt have one issue.

the new djay app (2.5 i think) allows you to use your spotify account so you can access more music than the ipad can hold. i don't like this for a few reasons:

1. i refuse to use spotify as they don't pay artists the royalties they should.
2. streaming audio sounds like crap.
3. wireless networks can be dodgy.
4. djay app developers may never decide to make it possible to play music from a wifi drive within the app because they probably figure accessing spotify solves the problem of not having enough space on the ipad.
*algoriddim pay attention now*
there's lots of music spotify doesn't have and there's lots of people who DJ who care about music quality and want the ability to use a wifi drive and not have to rely on the cloud.

I agree with you Hillary. I don't care for Spotify myself for all those reasons (although I didn't know about #1, and that's bad if that's true).

I think Algoriddim added Spotify to please the home users that do care about Spotify and perhaps even use that as their primary music source. I'm not one of those people, so I just hope that Algoriddim will still look into supporting Wifi drives as well.

Djay can interface with the seagate wireless plus hard drive. This will allow us to pull all the music me have into the app. Moreover, allow use to use the karaoke files as well and the we can use Apple TV to project the word.

I just bought the Seagate Wireless Plus drive and have successfully imported a song from the Seagate drive into DJay 2. It's not a direct process. You have to leave DJay playing and use Seagate's app to import the file from the drive to the IPad then you again use the app to load the song into DJay.

Integration with folder, usb pendriver and hdd !!!.

We need besides Itunes and Spotify can seek inside the music folders Ipad. Integrate reading files audio and video in external hardware as: pendriver usb and hard drive. This function is missing so the soft might evolve in the ways of the great DJs

As confirmed in TWIT: Spotify does pay very well to the record labels. The record labels are not paying the artists.

With djay2 Version 2.7 from 23.11.2014 should work much more easier then before, right? They added 'my files' to pick directly from iCloud or via any other cloud App like "readdle documents". May someone confirm my very first testings?

You'll need iOS 8.1. at least, latest DJay2 app and readdle documents app (free). In the readdle app you can connect dropbox, icloud and also wireless hdd's.

In the djay app choose then 'my files' and tap oon'documents'. Then network and now you should see all available files, if done the named steps before. I just tried it with dropbox over the documents app.

No need to 'open with/in' circumstances!
