Using external USB sound card for pre-cueing - Windows Djay Pro

Hi,

I'm quite new to both DJing and Algoriddim's software, but I've set myself up with a Numark Mixtrack 3 and Djay Pro for Windows 10. I realised that I needed an external sound card for cuing so bought myself a USB sound card which works fine on its own. My issue is that I can't seem to figure out how to set up Djay pro (Windows) to use it for pre-cueing tracks through my headphones. I seem to only be able to set it as my main output instead of my speakers - if that makes sense?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Just a quick update:

After a little bit of digging on what seem to be a very limited number of relates threads, it seems that the issue is that the Windows version of the software does not provide you with the option of choosing which sound card to use as your master and your headphones. Apparently using a 4 channel mixer might get around this, so I've ordered one to test out. Should arrive later today so I'll keep you posted.

Any advice from someone who has done this or knows more than my very limited knowledge would be much appreciated.

I cant get a Denon MC2000 to work with it on 2 different devices. The minute I plug it in, Djay freezes. I'm starting to think something is wrong with audio devices in general.

Djay has confirmed that external audio interfaces are currently not working, same for me with my Audio DJ 2. Waiting for an update with that feature, to have the same features as on MAC.

External mixer doesn't work either. I'm at a loss. Why is there a pre-cueing button in the software if I can't use it? What's the point??

I also have an ESI Maya 44, however, I'm not able to configure the decks and the pre-cueing. What did you do exactly? Have you perhaps not the Windows version of djay pro, but an appleversion?

Sorry if this is a dumb question - I'm new to all this: the mixer I bought is not USB but it's input is a 1/4 inch audio jack. Is that why it's not working? Does it need to be a 4 channel USB audio mixer/interface?

I have the Maya 44 USB and it remains very far from the quality of the Audio DJ series which does not work on Djay pro.

It does work but don't suspect high quality audio...

I've looked a the Maya44 and other USB audio interfaces and they seem quite steep (£100+). Would a mixer like the pro edition of the Numark Mixtrack 3 work? Or would i have the same problem with not being able to precue using Djay Pro?

I've emailed Algoriddim and they've not responded.

I think it should work.

Djay Pro doesn't work when the usb soundcard is displayed as two separate outputs.

Personally, try to found the Maya44 in the second market and then buy an Audio DJ2 also the second market, the Audio has just a wonderfull output.

Hi, I opted for a Audio DJ2 but still can't get pre-cueing to work. It looks like it's because I can't select the outputs for headphones and speakers in Djay (same problem as with external USB). All Djay does is split between left and right headphones, not outputs.

Frustrating!

Hey guys,

we know this is frustrating.
At the moment we can not support devices which are unsupported by our Windows Audio driver (WASAPI). The support has high priority for us and we will do our best in order to fix this as soon as possible.

We are in contact with several hardware producers to get this sorted out.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Cheers,Lukas E.

Every driver that i know under windows uses ASIO, every DJ software and any DVS solution under window will use ASIO.

Except Mixxx which allows MME, WASAPI, ASIO,Directsound, all others DJ software under windows uses Asio.

You don't have a choice to use ASIO if you want to support all drivers that exist for all the controllers on the planet and external soundcards.

Please confirm that Asio implementation is planned, this is the most important feature...

Sorry, but why can't you put your Output to 2 different Audio devices.
!! It is as simple as it is !!
Your developers are able to connect to one Output device.
They also will be able to connect to a second device and send the HeadPhone Output to that second one.
Other Software does this in that way with no Problems.
I've made many Partys using one Notebook with several USB Output devices for different Players. Some of them are able to Play to 2 devices at the same time.

Please try to Play to two different Sound devices at the same time. It is simple!!

Lukas,

I purchased the Windows Djay Pro software a couple of weeks ago and I've been trying to set it up with my Reloop Play external sound card. The audio device appears as Headphones (RELOOP PLAY) and Speakers (RELOOP PLAY). Choosing one of these seems to put the audio out on one of the different channels on my Reloop Play, however I'm unable to assign one of the the channels to one of the two decks and the other channel to the other deck, as I would for Pre-Cueing.

By reading your posts in this thread I assume your are working on a fix for this bug. Can you provide some information on when this will be in place. I think it's a bit disappointing that you're selling the Windows version of your software as an actual release with such a critical bug at it's center. It doesn't seem very pro to me. I would understand it if this was a beta version, but as far as I can see you're charging full price for this software. Do you know any work around's? Is the Griffin DJ Cable and the split output functionality working as intended?

I think I've figured out how to get it to work. All you need to do is get both audio devices working at the same time. I have a realtek HD audio adapter with an external USB soundcard, so I was able to follow these instructions on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV46U...
All I did in Djay Pro was then to use the Realtek HD audio as master, and set split output in DJay Pro settings.

It worked for me.

I'm not sure whether that would do it. What I want is to listen to one of the decks via my headphones while the other plays via speakers, not listen to both simultaneously through both.

Would like to comment that my initial findings were wrong, I couldn't pre-cue. It's such an essential function for this software as not everyone has a DJ controller to pre-cue. Can Algoriddim please sort this out!

You guys should really give us the ability to download the Mac version as part of our original purchase until this issue is fixed. I'm regretting buying the windows version now :(

Woah I'm very glad I read this thread before purchasing this software. Is there any timeline on when this problem will be solved? To be honest this software is pretty useless without the ability to pre-cue

Hey there,

you can make every external devices, Soundcards and external Mixers work with djay by bringing the device via the VB-Audio ASIO Bridge.

Please follow these steps to bridge your device:
  1. Make sure the Creators Update is installed via the following link.
  2. Download the Audio bridge via this link.
  3. Install the bridge and make sure the latest driver of your external audio device is installed.
  4. Open "Sounds" and make sure "Hi-Fi Cable Input" is displayed as Playback device.
  5. Select "Hi-Fi Cable Input" and click "Configure".
  6. Select "Quadraphonic" as Audio Channel Speaker Setup.
  7. Click Next and Finish the Speaker Setup.
  8. Open the VB-Audio Asio Bridge and click "ASIO Device" (marked red in the following screenshot).
  9. Select your device and hit "ASIO ON".
  10. Go to djay Pro for Windows and go to the djay menu.
  11. Click "Audio Device" and apply "Hi-Fi Cable Input (VB- Audio Hi-Fi Cable)".
After following these steps djay will automatically assign the channel mapping of the device and pre cueing should be possible.
I am happy to announce you this work around and would love to get your feedback.

Cheers,Lukas E.

Found a solution after lots of reinstalls/software downgrades. Go to audio out settings (windows) and decrease slightly the output quality (labeled dvd or smt similar). All clean and sound now.

It seems that I will have to get a controller with a soundcard installed to fully appreciate djay pro which means what I have so far is heading to ebay

Hey there,

you can use external USB devices which have 4 channels so djay assigns 2 of them for the master and 2 for pre cueing.

Using your 2 channel USB soundcard and your internal headphone jack is not possible at the moment as we are unable to support aggregated devices.

Please explain how - when I hook up my Traktor Audio 2, DJay sends it's main output to both pairs of channels.

so. just bought djay pro for windows assuming it can pre-cue. seems it can't.

i do have two sound devices which i both can use as main output.

but i don't see an option to set one of these for pre-cueing. why is that?

Hey there,

please note that only one device can be selected at the moment.

Using your 2 channel USB soundcard and 2 channels of another USB device is not possible at the moment as we are unable to support aggregated devices.

Hi Lukas,

I have an 8 channel ASIO sound card (Roland OctaCapture).

"you can use external USB devices which have 4 channels so djay assigns 2 of them for the master and 2 for pre cueing."

Does this happen automatically or do i need to run that workaround you mentioned above first? If automatic, the stereo headphones automatically are linked with Channel 1 & 2, so would that then become the pre-cueing channels by default and then Channels 3 & 4 become the actual Stereo Output?

Thanks,

The Channel assignment is automatic, therefore I suggest using the workaround with your 8 channel sound card as well.

Please let me know about outcome.

Hi Lukas, unfortunately the workaround did not work as stated by others above. If you have other suggestions, im all ears... or perhaps explain how this worked for you in some more detail. I have tried moving the cue/mix slider around and it doesnt help. I just get the same sound in 4 speakers. The only thing that i did to get this to work was split 1 channel into 2 and run those into the L+R outputs, leaving the remaining channel for cueing. This works if youre happy with mono in 2 speakers (instead of stereo), however pls keep us updated on the actual fix (as Mac's have).
