I’ve always been an advocate for iTunes, but iTunes does have his drawbacks.
One of them is having smart playlists sorting incorrectly with DJay.
I spent countless hours I spent trying to figure out why certain smart playlists will sort correctly with DJay, but others won’t.
SOLUTION;
Add sort by “Date added” on the sorting options within DJay.
When adding a song from iTunes, the user needs the “recently
The Apple Music API doesn’t provide “Recently added” field at the moment for external applications.
So it’s always this case.
Some stuff are internal in the players like Apple Music and Spotify, which aren’t available for “external usage” for other apps through API’s…
Hi @LaidbackFred, thanks for the suggestion, but as @dj_romy_fi pointed out, I don’t think this is currently possible. I have sent this to the dev team for review anyway though and will report back here if there’s any news. Thanks!
Hey @Slak_Jaw ,
Thank you all,
I’ve finally figured out how to set sorting on iTunes so that DJay will automatically have recently added songs on top and ready to analyze without searching for them.
I’ll create a visual for any current and future Djay/iTunes users.
Djay library sorting
On a Mac Apple Music (iTunes).
1 - file/new/Smart playlist.
2 - a, choose your conditions (genres, etc.)
b, make sure all boxes are checked
c, Choose most recently added
d, input high limit (default is 25)
3 - choose options/playlist order/ascending
4 - a, Uncheck all boxes that will allow DJay to choose to sort by
(such as artist, album, etc.).
b, verify sorted by playlist order.
Note:
Do not go to step 5 until you complete steps 1 - 4 (doing this will allow DJay to alphabetically sort by the smart playlist by artist, album, etc. And keep this sorting no matter what the user tries afterwards.
5 - drag playlist over to device to sync.
Hopefully this works for any user that tries this. It’s been years I’ve been trying to figure this out. I could not figure out why certain playlists behaved and others wouldn’t.
I’ve tried steps 1 - 5 repeatedly with success.
Starting this topic again in 2024.
I’ve read that Apple Music (iTunes) doesn’t allow Date Added sorting in other Apps. But please explain how it works in Serato. And why it won’t work in Djay.
With large playlists it’s pretty necessary
Hi @Scott_Taniguchi, thanks for refreshing this topic. I have merged your new topic with this existing one to keep the conversation organized. I have also passed this onto the dev and engineering teams. In the meantime, please use the blue Vote button at the top left of this page so we can gauge user demand for this feature. Thanks!
