Analyzed music file export macOS - iOS

NOTE: Please use the search function above before posting to avoid creating duplicate topics. Did this and found an old thread from 2019 with problems Im sure have been fixed by now but no answer…

  • Device model (e.g. 2020 iPad Air 4th Gen): iPad Pro 2021 and Mac mini M1
  • Version of operating system (e.g. macOS 14.4.1): Latest
  • Version of djay (e.g. 5.1.2): Latest
  • Hardware/controllers used (e.g. Reloop Mixon 8 Pro): FLX4

Your question: I imported my music files into DJ Pro on the iPad. Then I got DJ Pro on Mac so I could analyse and add hot cues (easier than doing it on the iPad) Now I want to get the music files with those hot cues and analysis from the mac into the iPad (from which I will DJ)
but for the life of me I cant find how to do that. :stuck_out_tongue:
Google says " * On your Mac, open Finder and go to the ~/Music/djay/ folder." but I dont have those file directories ? This must be a common question for newbies so there must be a link with clear instructions. Please help.

Hot cues and saved loops should sync across devices via iCloud as long as you are logged into the same account on both.
Do you have icloud sync activated on both?

Hi, Thanks for the attention, I do Have it synched but I have different files in each device (I transferred some music to my iPad when I set up DJ Pro but have more files on my Mac that Ive spent the last two days setting up hot cues and fixing beat grids etc on - how do those synch across? The files dont just migrate to my iPad? Does that data (hot cues, etc) recognise the file on the iPad and apply? Also how do I transfer my songs to a usb with all that meta data intact, for example when I need to use pro equipment at a gig? I saw a thread from last year which seemed to end on “we’ll get the devs to check that out” but I dont see any conclusion? Has that been sorted cos it seems to be a pretty big deal if youre a pro DJ, often you wouldn’t be using your own gear and would only have a USB… link to thread: How to export / transfer cue points?
Is this resolved?
Cheers Dan

Ok I just checked on my iPad, the hot cues etc have applied…like magic
But The question of exporting my tracks to USB with hot cues etc in tact remains.

Can’t help you with that one. I only use djay with my own gear.

Cool. Im a musician (trumpet player) and Im getting into DJing with a friend who is also both musician (keys) and DJ. We’ve done a few gigs this year with our hybrid act and three of those gigs have been on big stages with some top of the range supplied Pioneer CDJ Rigs with just USB ins. My bud uses Rekordbox and they export his files so the USB is compatible with the decks, I just assume most DJs doing bigger stages (and even clubs where the decks are supplied) will need the facility of exporting their Sets to USB. Am I wrong? How would you perform under those circumstances?

I don’t use usb sticks, cdjs or rekordbox so I’m not the person to ask really

I can tell you that djay doesn’t support this method currently so you will need a version of rekordbox of your own if you want to perform on pioneer equipment

Ok thanks, that doesn’t make sense tho.. it’s advertised as Pioneer integrated, and I mean I use it on my own Pioneer FLX4 controller…Im not sure what Im missing…surely it’s not just for performing on your own rig. Is DJ pro not a pro DJ app? Maybe someone else can weigh in?

Your djay library is a database only and not exportable to other software or devices. That’s how it works with Djay.
The FLX4 is just a controller that will work with djay and not part of the cdj system.
If you want your djay library on pioneer equipment You would have to use software such as lexicon which now offers a free version to transfer your djay library to rekordbox and then to usb.
The free version of rekordbox will probably allow you to do all this
Hope that makes sense.

Hi @EQnox, this is not supported in djay. All of the Hot Cues, Saved Loops and other meta data are stored in the djayMediaLibrary database file and are not written to the files themselves. The linked FAQs below discuss this database in more detail. As Daniel has suggested, you will need to use a 3rd party app to export your saved hot cues to another platform like Rekordbox. I hope that helps!

Also, thanks for the assist on the iCloud Sync and Lexicon export @daniel_curley. I appreciate the help!

You’re welcome @Slak_Jaw

Only Hotcues will be intact (for use with djay in another laptop. But not playlists. You will need to make playlist afresh. If you need to plug that USB onto a CDJ, nope those will not show. For that you need rekordbox

You, you need rekordbox. Pioneer engineered their CDJs to only accept rekordbox-prepared sticks if you want hotcues and playlists to show
