Best controller hardware for Djay Pro? (scratch DJ's)

  • Rane Performer (FW: 1.3.0.13)

I’m currently using a Rane Performer with DJay Pro and I like my experience using this configuration overall…

but…

I’m noticing the “feeling” of the jogwheels doesn’t feel as “tight” as with SDJ Pro when I’m scratching and cutting… I’m currently looking at other options as I want to purchase a controller to gig with. (I’d prefer to leave my Performer at home in the studio permanently and have a dedicated gig controller)

the Rane One MKII and Reloop Mixon 8 Pro look interesting to me, but I’d like to see if any scratch DJ’s have any experience with these two controllers and DJay Pro as far as how tight they feel when scratching, cutting and nudging.

I’m open to other suggestions, (4 channel or 2 channel, Jogwheel or spinning platter) If other DJ’s have experience with controllers that work “flawlessly” for them.

I’m not much of a scratch DJ so unfortunately I can’t really provide much advice on this one.

No worries, @Slak_Jaw. What controller do you currently use? And what’s your overall thoughts as far as tight integration with Djay Pro? I’m open to any and all suggestions.

I used to have a Mixon 8 Pro and really liked it. Very tight integration with djay. I also had a Denon Prime 4 that worked great with djay on iPad. Currently, I have a Mixtour Pro with 2 Denon LC6000’s. I really like this setup a lot.

Thanks! The LC6000s are great. You can actually control 4 Decks with a single player if you want. Plus the Mixtour Pro can control 4 Decks.

If I was more serious about scratching, I’d probably have my eye on a RANE One MKII or REV7. Or maybe I’d hold out for RANE System One support…

yeah, the Rane One MK2 is definitely on the list.

I’ve spent a few hours on the Rev7 and really liked it, but I gotta have my hot cue pads below my platters. The pads being in the middle of the controller felt really weird to me. I guess using the NS73 and Rane One for years feels a little more intuitive for me.

Fair enough. I also prefer vertical tempo faders over the horizontal “battle” style layout.

Are there maybe some advanced MIDI settings for the jogs/platters you can play around with? I’m not familiair with those exact settings, but I can imagine that maybe there is some resolution or speed setting you can tinker with?

For how long have you owned the LC’s?
How frequent do you batter it?

I have had issues with longevity of legacy brands making new models around covid times (outsourced labor) - When I bought my Rane 12 mk2’s they didn’t last me long enough (value for money lacking terribly).
Even the Rane 70’s had premature failures that shouldn’t have happened yet. The build quality was just not Rane tbh. A techie had to resoulder some joints and he was visibly shocked how shody the workmanship was.

I leaned towards getting one of those Denon 6000’s (SC or LC), but the same hesitation got to me.
How is the LC6000’s looking so far?
