I like the app a lot but I am wondering why Algoriddim is still not providing fundamental hardware integration features like switching to the cue point panel in the app when I hit a cue point on the controller or toggling Crossfader FX on/off when hitting “Smart Fader” on the controller…
The FLX4 is officially supported by algoriddim and I suppose a lot of users own a FLX4. At least, please provide a way to Midi map that by ourselves. Thank you
I also used to have a Flx4, and it was possible to assign the Smart Fader button accordingly. With the other thing you mean switching the display according to the selected pad mode, right? This has already been suggested several times. This is also supported on some controllers, but unfortunately not generally. I would also welcome this, at least as an option.
Otherwise, however, the integration of the Flx4 is already one of the best when it comes to using the features provided by the manufacturer.
How did you implement the Smart Fader button, Chris? In my setup I can only put it off but not on again. Thanks
I haven’t had the Flx4 for a few days now, but I’ve just tried it again with another controller, and I think it should work for you too:
Press the “Smart Fader” button in the Midi Editor, select “Mixer” as the target and “Smart Fader Toggle” as the action.
Thanks, Chris. If I press “Smart Fader” on the deck, in Midi mode it detects “CC 3” in the App. However, if I choose “Mixer” as the target there is no “… toggle” or anything similar to choose as action. I think the “toggle” option was included in the unofficial midi mappings that were discussed here earlier but it is not part of the official mapping.
Any idea?
Unfortunately, I can’t test this at the moment as I no longer have the Flx4. However, I have noticed before that the same options are apparently not displayed for every controller. Is the function perhaps listed for a different target? Otherwise I have no other idea at the moment …
The FLX4 Built-In mapping restricts several buttons. Specifically, the Smart CFX and Smart Fader buttons, which are not, and cannot be mapped to anything useful or obvious (like toggling the Crossfader FX On/Off).
Annoyingly, the Smart Fader button on the FLX2 does toggle the Crossfader FX!
Notes:
-
The FLX4 Smart Fader button adds an echo/fade when you pull the faders down. An interesting trick, but ignores the completely obvious thing we need - it should be enabled to toggle the Crossfader FX On/Off (just like on the FLX2).
-
On the FLX4, the Smart CFX button is mapped so it engages FX2 when you turn the Filter knob to High Pass and engages FX3 when you turn the Filter knob to Low Pass. Once again an interesting trick, but it’s so random and undocumented that it’s just a neat trick, not really a “feature” (plus it doesn’t seem to work on any other controller, or in the app itself).
So yeah, Algoriddim needs to revisit the FLX4 Built-In mapping for better integration with djay Pro.
Thank youMichael. Yes, I found out that it’s either possible to have the “SmartCFX” functionality (which I like a lot) with the standard mapping or the “Toggle Crossfader FX” option that is available with the unofficial mapping that you provided
Hi @turbopussy, in the Advance Control Configuration section of MIDI Learn, you need to change the Type to Button instead of Fader/Rotary.
Also, you should try to remap the Smart Fader Button, not the Smart CFX button. CFX in Pioneer-language stands for “Color FX” which are the filter knobs and have nothing to do with our Crossfader FX. I hope that helps!
Ok Slak_Jaw, did it. Crossfader FX “toggles” now, but not when pressing SmartFader button but the SHIFT button of Deck 1.
Strange, but better than before
@Slak_Jaw Unfortunately, mapping the Smart Fader button as a MIDI “button” still does not trigger the Crossfader FX toggle (even though it all shows up fine in the MIDI mapper).
Notes:
-
SHIFT+Smart Fader to toggle Crossfader FX is an okay workaround, but personally I did not find it performance friendly. I actually un-mapped it in the middle of a gig because it created too much “busy-work” over the Faders.
-
Using a Pad to toggle Crossfader FX is better. It’s not perfect, but for me, it’s cleaner, obvious and more importantly, away from the Faders.
… anyways … so yeah, the FLX4 mapping needs a re-visit by Algoriddim, specifically for the Crossfader FX toggle.
My mistake @Michael_Wisniewski and @turbopussy. I spoke too early on this one, but remapping the Smart Fader button will be possible in the upcoming djay update.
No worries.
In addition to the FX Fader toggle issue please make the respective section in the app appear when hitting HOT CUE, PAD FX, BEAT JUMP and SAMPLER on the controller please
Changing screen display modes via MIDI has already been suggested below and the dev team is aware of this. You can cast your vote in the linked thread below to show support for adding this feature. Thanks.
