I need a way to choose which deck I want to “Instant Double” and can’t find anything usable. I was hoping for the “Set Sync Master” MIDI command to control this, but no.
I cannot cheat the “Master Deck” logic in any way - I’ve tried lowering the line fader, moving the XF a bit on the side. It doesn’t work OK. It only works after I close the channel completely (through LF or XF or Pause). I was really hoping and expecting that the “Set Sync Master” MIDI command would control this too, but no. It doesn’t do the job for selecting the Master for the Instant Double. Pity.
What I need is to choose which deck I’m duplicating, exactly as @Allen_rich described in his old thread - e.g. duplicating 1 to 3 and 2 to 4. I also have a MIDI sequence programmed to duplicate a deck to 3&4 + NM break apart with a single command for remixes, and that’s also tricky without precise control on which Deck it will pull the song from.
Would it suite if the existing “Set Sync Master” command also selects the “Master Deck” for the needs of the “Instant Double”? It sounds very appropriate if it does …
If not the “Set Sync Master”, then please add a new MIDI command to “Set Master Deck” for the needs of the Instant Double feature. (I honestly don’t think a new one is needed really, as the “Sync Master” and the “Master Deck” should be the same, right?)
Any update here? I have been reading the forums and support articles and struggling to understand how the instant double works? Is there a way to also when using this keep an active loop active? I thought I had read a cool midi hack with multiple actions for a button hit, but search is failing me.
Hi @Kaloyan and @IamNaN, I spoke with engineering regarding this.
We changed the logic for Instant Double in 5.3.1 to fix edge cases with 4 Decks:
If doubling to Deck 1 or 2, use the other Deck (1 or 2) if it’s audible and playing
Otherwise use “Active Deck” if it’s audible and playing (active deck is the one that is chosen as the sync master by default if no sync master is set manually)
Otherwise find first deck (starting with Deck 1) that is audible and playing
Otherwise use loudest Deck that has a song loaded.
Cool. Out of curiosity is there a way to simplify this in midi at least with an options to program double deck n to deck m for m,n = 1234. that conditional logic is hard to keep straight when performing and unpredictable if say you forget to turn a track off completely etc.
