I’ve been experimenting with another way to get data out of djay Pro, and it’s been much more responsive in my testing than my previous Accessibility API approach.
The RANE SYSTEM ONE integration got me curious about how djay sends data to the controller’s screen.
On macOS, I found that it uses protobuf messages carried over MIDI SysEx. By presenting virtual MIDI endpoints as a SYSTEM ONE display connection, I was able to receive track metadata, playhead updates, waveforms, beat grids and more.
I’ve put together an experimental djay Pro Bridge debugger to visualize that data.
Note this has only been tested with djay Pro 5.6.9 on macOS. Also connecting can unload your decks and change audio routing, so connect before loading tracks.
