Delete missing tracks or entire library?

I’ve been going through a process of upgrading (bitrate) the music files I sync to iPad. Now my library is a bit of a mess with majority greyed out as “missing” that they’re missing is not a problem this is expected (these are the lower bitrate files I’m no longer syncing). The problem is, as mentioned it’s a mess, with all the duplicated greyed out versions, which I’d like to delete.

I note this thread from a few years back provided no solution:

Is there a way to do this now? If not, what is the safest way to delete my music library so I can start clean?

I can live with consequences, maybe losing playlists, cues etc as most are full of these missing tracks anyway. And I’m only a few months into using DJay, but a fresh start, done right, with just higher bit rate files actually appeals.

Please don’t ask me to do it via iTunes/Apple Music, that would create an even bigger mess, and not be reliable I’m sure, absolute last resort.

Thanks

Hi @N_C,

Thanks for sharing your question, and it makes sense as to why you’d want a fresh start!

Which source were you pulling tracks from into djay (iTunes, TIDAL, etc)?

Additionally, did you create all of these playlists within My Collection or a different source?

Have a good day!

Actually, let me ask something related as well. Sometimes, I’m downloading a track and when I load it too deck for analysis/cue point setting it gives me the premade analysis, which tells me, that i already have this track in my library. I just forgot, that I had it. But when I delete the new copy the system loses a link to the first file or deletes both of them, that is still confusing for me. Can this be checked? I tried relinking files system, but it didn’t work that great. Anybody else had this kind of trouble?

I begin - reluctantly through bitter experience - with a iTunes sync of some carefully curated playlists.

Once tracks are on iPad, I create my ‘live’ playlists in My Collection as needed

Ok, I got impatient waiting for a reply and so I deleted all tracks My Library, but ive now lost all tracklist info, still there but empty of course. I note that sessions info is retained. I accept I messed up, but I think deleting tracks should not delete from a trackless. Is there anyway of reverting so I can at least save the playlist info before deleting all again?

Thanks

Hi @Akrilovy,

Thanks for the your post - that sounds very strange.

For our teams to better investigate could you clarify the steps in reproducing this issue and or provide us with a screen recording of this behavior for further review?

We greatly appreciate it!

Ok, I’ll try ok, I’ll keep that in mind. Will try to do

Can you help me with this? I’m stuck (hence my impatience).

@Slak_Jaw can you help with this please or do I need to contact support?

Hi @N_C,

Have you tried restoring from a djay media library backup? If I understand your inquiry correctly, this may be a viable solution for you.

To restore djay to its previous state, please follow the steps below.

  1. Close djay for iOS.
  2. Open the Files iOS app.
  3. Navigate to “On my ______”
  4. Open the djay folder.
  5. Tap on a previous backup in which your library was as you expected it to be.
  6. djay will open, and your previous library should be enabled.

Happily awaiting your reply. Have a good day!

Ok,thanks I checked that, but it didn’t work. Get track load error. Seems once the files are deleted you do lose all your playlists. Seems like a serious error in the set up. I think with iTunes if you deleted tracks they would dissappear from playlists, but if you deleted the files they would be “missing”.

So, this - deleting tracks = ‘apparent’ loss of playlists - is a problem.

Is there no way to export playlist info, as CSV maybe?

As it stands it seems like there is no safe way (without losing tracklist info) to clear sound library of old files.

And to re-iterate, the reason this is needed in the first place is greyed out missing files, making the whole library a big mess.

I hope you can pass this onto the developers.

The music library is such a User experience weak point in this app.

Which brings me to another question, which is, is it possible to use a third party music library?

Thanks
