Djay 6.0 dream features?

I said “adjustable” always keep it dynamic, personizable, the only way to keep it interesting, fun and adaptable for as much dj’s as possible. It is a tool in the end, Do know about djoid but didn’t do a deepdive into that one. (Because of Lexicon usage for cleaning up my meta data lot of work)

One cool thing I saw in Virtual DJ recently, which I believe is AI powered, is that if your track has vocals in it, it displays them above the waveform. I tend to avoid mixing vocals over the top of each other so I thought that was a useful feature.

I also think it can be used for Karaoke, to display the lyrics on another screen without having to pay for dedicated Karaoke packages.

Excellent example man, that’s a cool addition (kind of like “end of track flashing warning thing”)

A cool addition in theory, but reading the comments of some experienced VDJ users on here and the Engine forum, its wildly inaccurate and certainly not to be used in any kind of pro environment as say a karaoke replacement or to censor offensive words, as it’ll likely cause more issues than its worth.

Not entirely correct. Rekordbox does it well. It’s a really good feature for quickly seeing where the vocals are particularly for a requested song and you want to get creative quickly.

“Does it well”

or 100% accurate? From what im reading online its far from doing it well.

Well enough. Nothing is really all of the time.

This is rekordbox btw, imagine what Algoriddim will do.

I would like a “simple” function, where it disables all effects, syncs all that extra stuff and just show me 2 decks ,cue points and eq on the screen.. with one click..:joy:

Its funny ou say that, because that actually has some weight in other forums, kind of like ‘absolute’ mode on Serato, no distractions.

Fascinating discussion everyone! However, I suspect that @Mister_Tuur will agree that this might be getting a bit off the original topic. Perhaps the AI feature debate deserves its own topic?

Okay, I’ve made a new topic so we can discuss AI tools in DJ software. I’ll move some of the posts from here over…

I’ve moved what I think are the relevant posts for the “AI in DJ software” debate. Hopefully that helps to keep these two discussions a bit more organized. Thanks!

I don’t think any of the requested features prevent “the DJ from doing the DJing”. This would just streamline the workflow and free up more mental bandwidth for the DJ to be present during DJ’ing. Ironically, I think these features would actually allow for more of human touch to DJ’ing, not less.

I’d like to see AI powered phrase auto-recognition and labeling. With STEMS/Neural Mix and audio to text transcription tech at such a high level now, I know there has to be an algorithm that could pull apart a track into the instrumental and acapella tracks, analyze the lyrics in the acapella, and use pattern recognition to figure out which parts are the chorus (repeated lyrics sections) and which are the verses, and even where the bridges are. Then setting cue point could be exponentially faster because you could automate that as well with “1 bar before chorus” or “1st beat of the verse” etc.

What you’ve said there are all things the human DJ can do with practise, having knowledge of your music (that you should have bought because you love it) can do all those things without a computer telling you when things are going to happen.

How can DJing be more of an involving experience by staring at a screen reading cues, tags etc over just listening to and feeling the music yourself?

Sorry that just makes zero sense to me whatsoever.

I used djay for almost 15 years now and the iPad version for 5 years specifically and I’ve noticed a major improvement for their software beyond my expectations, in terms of next-level innovation and on top of tackling tons of bugs. I’ve noticed myself branching out and expanding genre playlists over the past 2 years, along with other playlists such as “instruments”, “words”, “holidays”, etc. I’m now more focused on managing playlists than worrying about setting cue points, grids and the proper BPM than ever before. This helped me expand my taste and find exactly what I’m looking for. I realized the most important thing in a set is the MUSIC. So I’ll be digging for music then adding the music I like to the proper playlist soon after. Sure, it’s tedious but having an AI generated playlist would help consolidate certain playlist ideas; that being “energy, vibe, style, mood, etc.” I believe it would be ideal to add something like Energy as an option for smart playlists. This way, it would be able to filter tracks with a loud or soft waveforms? I dunno, just throwing an idea out there.

I’d love to see more customisation of the UI, remove things we don’t use, configure how many channels we can see, the balance between library and decks being adjustable. That would be a massive game changer for my use case, I have 3 decks and no easy way to see or use them in Djay right now.

Slightly broader brush but seeing as how good the tablet/phone versions are now, I’m looking forward to the next gen of hardware that give us single cable connection for our devices with USB-C. I’ve got an M4 iPad Pro waiting for it, the Flux has made me see the light regarding that.

My dream features are pretty low-key. Don’t want fancy AI, just basic automation that supports the DJ.

  1. Auto-Mix Prep Assistant - Automix features but with a manual mix. On the iPad version, I love the features that let me manually adjust the auto-mix playlist, move tracks up/down for better track order, set the next track to be played etc., and especially, auto-load the next track! All that is great automation for DJs, especially if we could turn off “auto-mix” and manually do the final mix.
  2. Customizable UI - Give us more options to turn UI elements on/off, especially the option for the screen to adapt (make it responsive) while navigating the software.
  3. Full Screen Library - No waveforms etc. - All Library with more robust database features for managing the library (like in MP3Tag etc.)
  4. Full Screen Library Panes - Option for full screen track lists in the Library window. If I’m looking at the Queue or Automix Playlist, it should fill the Library window. This would include options to hide the Tracks and Playlists pane.
  5. Import/Export playlists - .m3u for regular playlists and .xml for smart playlists.
  6. Automatic System Playlists - There should be automatic system playlists for Genre, Artist, Album. In addition, there should be a Trash Can playlist to fully delete tracks from the main database + all playlists.
  7. Track Playlist View - A way to see all playlists for a track - and then quickly add/delete that track from those playlists.
  8. Gig/Current Playlists - A customizable library pane or ribbon, that shows the current playlists we need for a gig. (Traktor has a similar feature). In addition, Traktor has a feature, where the Function keys are mapped to those playlists, so you can quickly add/delete tracks into those playlists.

Midi options for every feature within djay. So having a scratch tools and Ableton link toggle that I can assign to buttons on my controller I don’t use. Would make djay much more customisable.
