djay Pro Cueing Bug: A Live Gig Discovery DJs Need to Know
Last night, while performing live using djay Pro AI on my MacBook Pro paired with the Pioneer DDJ-FLX10, I encountered a puzzling issue that could have easily derailed the set if not resolved quickly.
Despite everything being properly configured —
• Main Output: FLX10 ch 1-2
• Pre-Cueing: FLX10 ch 3-4
• Mixer Mode: Internal
• Headphones MIX knob: Fully set to CUE
• CUE buttons: Correctly selected on non-playing decks
• Channel faders: Not in THRU mode
…I discovered I was unable to preview non-playing tracks in my headphones. No matter what I cued, I kept hearing the master output. Everything looked right, but cueing simply refused to behave.
After double-checking every possible hardware and software setting, I eventually uncovered the culprit:
The issue was caused by djay Pro’s “Crossfader FX” being enabled.
When Crossfader FX is toggled ON, it overrides or disrupts the normal cue routing — effectively disabling pre-cue monitoring, even when all headphone and mixer settings are correct.
As soon as I disabled Crossfader FX, headphone cueing was restored instantly and worked as expected.
⸻
Why This Matters:
This is clearly a software-side bug or unintended behavior, especially critical during live performances where cueing is essential. DJs may not immediately suspect a creative FX tool to interfere with such a core function.
⸻
My Suggestion:
Algoriddim should investigate and address this bug. Ideally, Crossfader FX should not affect headphone cue routing, or at least there should be a warning or setting to manage this dependency.
⸻
For Fellow DJs:
If you’re using Crossfader FX in djay Pro and find yourself unable to preview upcoming tracks — toggle it off immediately and test your cue. This might save your set.
Stay sharp… and keep the dancefloor lit.
