I have a DJM 900Nxs at home and my venue has a 900Nxs 2.
Will the iOS version work for both mixers using time code on iPhone 16 pro max? Thanks in advance
Hi @Alex_Johnston, welcome to the Community! I’m assuming you are using CDJs as well with the DJM mixers? I believe this should work in DVS mode, as long as you are using a 1kHZ control tone CD. Please note when you want to use cues on the player you should consider using ABS mode, otherwise it can become confusing. I recommend, however, that you test this out in advance before performing in a live scenario. I hope that helps!
I suggest you read here first. Pioneer DJM-900 Nexus 2 + iOS (iPad/iPhone) – Are there any effective solutions?
Yes, but I believe using the CDJs as a DVS interface should work. I’m not a DVS expert, but from my understanding, the mixer will be used as an external mixer mode device and djay on the iOS device will be working in DVS mode and controlled by the CDJs via timecode CDs. Maybe I’m wrong on this. Unfortunately, I don’t have this setup to test and confirm for myself.
I’m pretty sure that only one audio interface can be connected at time to iOS. If apple changed this I’ll be happy
No Apple has not changed this. Only 1 audio interface can be used at a time on iOS. So, perhaps I am wrong above then and a class compliant mixer or secondary audio interface would be required even with DVS. Either way, it would be worth testing if either of you have this hardware and 1kHz timecode CDs.
Thanks for getting back to me, that’s brilliant. I’m using serato timecode records currently, not CDJs, however if CDJs work on timecode, records should work too? I’ll likely get the DJAY records too, as love the idea of the side A/B with stems on one side… what a great feature!
I want to sync my serato library into google drive, then access google drive on DJAY on my phone for quick practises at home on my technics/ DJM900, rather than getting my laptop out all the time. It’ll also make an excellent backup at gigs.
I’ll be connecting to the DJM900 using the recommended multiport adapter.
Hi Slak_Jaw, an update. My adapter arrived today and when I hook up my iPhone, it recognises the DJM but as a midi control board. I can’t seem to select it as an audio output option? Unless I’m missing something.
Did you try setting the Mixer Mode to External?
As noted above, this mixer is not audio class compliant, so I guess even in DVS timecode mode it cannot be used with iOS. Let me check with our engineering team on Monday to see if there’s a way to make this work via timecode or not.
Yes I’ve tried internal and external. When I select external there aren’t any options to route the audio to the deck channels, gutted as the midi works wonderfully.
What if you connect the CDJ directly to the iPhone via USB?
I don’t have CDJs at home, only Technics and the 900Nxs. I do have a Rane SL3 soundcard in the loft but I read that’s also not class compliant and then I wouldn’t be able to also plug in the DJM, unless I use a USB hub between? Did I read correctly earlier that iOS only accepts one USB device at a time?
Yes, only 1 USB Audio device. You can have multiple USB MIDI devices connected, but only 1 audio interface.
My apologies, I don’t have much personal DVS experience and I don’t have access to this hardware myself to test. Hopefully I’ll have some more direction from engineering on Monday.
It is possible to use 2 Audio Interface (on iPad and/or iPhone). I have not figured out, what’s the reason for it, but if I connect my NI Komplete Audio 2 and the old MIXTOUR, I can use both devices as audio interface.
I also own a NI Traktor Audio 6. If I connect this, then the other two are gone. Always the last insert USB Audio Interface wins.
Short update, while writing I did another test. Also Komplete Audio 2 and Traktor Audio 6 are working together (currently no other USB devices are connected (no controller)).
Hi @Alex_Johnston, sorry for the delayed reply here. So, yes, I was wrong. To work on iOS the mixer absolutely must be class compliant. Either that, or you need a class compliant DVS audio interface.
The CDJ will output the timecode signal via the RCAs on the back, so we need some way to get that timecode into djay. (remember: timecode is just audio, as if you were playing a regular CD)
- using the USB socket on the CDJ won’t work. It can only do MIDI/HID (and use the RCAs as an audio output from djay)
- usually the audio interface on the mixer is the way to go, if it’s class compliant
- the only way to make this work with a non class compliant mixer is to use a class compliant DVS audio interface.
Sorry for the incorrect information early
Thanks for the information. I’m going to have to leave DJAY until I switch out for a new class-compliant mixer one day. Shame as I was really looking forward to using it for practising. Thank you for your efforts, much appreciated.
You’re welcome @Alex_Johnston. Hope to see you back soon!
This is very nice find. Apparently, (on M series iPads) you can go into settings-general-about-audio midi setup and create an aggregate device with at least 2 audio interfaces.
Do you mind following the settings path and take a screenshot for us?
I have an iPhone and my iPad is not a M series so it doesn’t appear for me Thnx😁
Hi, I don’t find this option in the iPad settings. I know it from MacOS, but don’t see it on my iPad Air (M3). Do you have a link, where it is scribed more detailed?
