Your question:
I’m Dj’ing an event at the high school I teach at. The kids sent me a playlist on Apple Music. Amazing now that Djay Pro works with Apple Music, except due to the school’s firewall policy whatever, you can’t access Apple Music or Beatsource. I’m sure the easy option would be to download a VPN, but I’m not interested in signing up for one then trying to remember to cancel before the free trial is up.
I decided to purchase all of the songs on iTunes (it was 40 songs and it’s for my students. $45 is nbd if it works) thinking I’d have access to them with wifi off but I don’t. With Serato, when you purchase songs, you just open SDJ Pro, click “analyze files” and boom they’re there. On djay pro it seems to be a little different, but most of those songs won’t load and are saying the files are corrupt. Hoping someone can help explain to me where and how to find iTunes purchases. Thank you!
Even though these tracks have been purchased for $1.29 on iTunes, when WiFi is off they are greyed out, and cannot be played.
I assume post purchase when they show up under recent files in the music app that I need to “download” them. Still not seeming to work for all of the tracks.
In djay Pro, the Apple streaming and downloaded tracks are stored separately.
- Streaming is accessed from Apple Music
- Downloaded/purchased tracks are accessed through Local Music.

I thought so but my recent iTunes purchases are coming up as corrupt audio files unless I’m on WiFi. I know at my next gig I won’t have access to WiFi or mobile hotspot. Not sure how to un-corrupt them? Thanks for your help.
Hi @jmoak311,
Thanks for sharing this question/issue with us.
Please note that the pop-up says, “This could be caused by a corrupt file” - keyword “could.”
Recently, we updated some of the error messages a user might receive in djay to provide more clarity. For example, a user might get a 404 error, but that doesn’t really mean much, as a 404 error could mean many things.
It might be a different issue if the tracks are playing just fine on WiFi.
Could you try linking the affected tracks in djay via the Files source in djay’s music library to see if the tracks are playable there?
Thanks!
Forgive my ignorance, I’m not sure what you mean by linking the affected tracks?
Ok yes, until now, I haven’t even had the “my files” folder in the library as I mainly use Beatsource and my crates transferred from SDJ Pro. Give me one second to try that. Thank you.
I see iTunes but not Apple Music. I didn’t realize how bad I was with computers I’m sorry guys.
When I link iTunes it’s only showing 2 tracks. I have thousands of tracks in iTunes. I’m convinced something went wrong when I recently signed up for Apple Music a few months back. It duplicated my sdj pro library but I didn’t really care because I was switching to djay pro.
You need to confirm where your music is being stored … there are 4 options:
- The old iTunes folder (/Music/iTunes). Look in “iTunes Media” folder to confirm if your tracks are there.
- The new Apple Music folder (/Music/Music). Look in the “Media” folder to confirm if your tracks are there. (From the photo, it looks like that folder does not exist.)
-
Another folder in your computer, perhaps related to Serato?
- Finally, it could be that you’ve been streaming most of your music. Meaning that tracks have not been downloaded locally to your computer, but have been streamed as needed.

All of my music that I’ve purchased over the years is stored in the “local music” folder (approximately 10k songs) except any purchase I’ve made on iTunes since switching to djay pro back in early November. Until I switched over to djay pro I was not an Apple Music user, and used iTunes to purchase songs for first dances at weddings etc.
I keep showing paparazzi by lady Gaga because that is one of those newer purchases and the first track I have to play at my event tonight.
The reality is that I will either need to download a VPN (my venue tonight has a strict firewall for public WiFi) or use Serato ( fyi all of those recent purchases can be played on sdj pro). It just makes me sad because I’ve been trying to convince another dj at the school to switch over to djay pro and I can already hear him now lol.
Definitely not in these folders.
So I went to google and found a bunch of people having the same issue. According to what I read, you can either sign up for Apple Music OR iTunes but not both! Signing up for Apple Music will ruin your ability to purchase music through iTunes in hopes of using it without WiFi. Really scary for weddings. I have always purchased my important songs on iTunes to use for first dances etc.
Now I have a predicament, stick with Apple Music to have access to all that music on the fly and ALWAYS require a secure WiFi, or ditch Apple Music to make sure I can still use iTunes for hard downloads. OR I guess I could look to Amazon music etc. for first dances etc. record pools rarely have older tracks. This is where iTunes shined imo and was a necessary evil.
At my event today I will have to sign up for a vpn because these tracks aren’t available on SDJ pro either! My apologies, I thought this was an issue native to djay pro. People told me I was nuts when I explained to them how signing up for Apple Music did something crazy to my library.

One last thing to find your files. Right-click on a track in your djay Library and select Show In Finder - it might show you the location where all the other tracks are (assuming they have actually been downloaded). It will also be clear if the file does not exist on your computer.
Suggestions for the Future:
- Download all your iTunes purchases.
- Copy the downloaded tracks to a different folder - separate from iTunes and Apple Music.
-
UNCHECK these Settings In Apple Music/iTunes
– “Keep Music Media folder organized”
– “Copy files to Music Media folder when adding to library”.

Interesting, the songs that allow me to see in finder, if I double click them they become available with WiFi off. But the newer purchases are nowhere to be found.
I just purchased a song off of Amazon and it works fine without WiFi. I’m not sure if the library is comparable, but moving forward if I need an important song for a first dance I will check Amazon, and look for other options as well. Thank you all so much for your help!
Hi @jmoak311,
We appreciate all the updates you’ve shared in this thread and would love to continue assisting you just as @Michael_Wisniewski has (thanks, Michael!).
Can you condense these updates into some questions for myself and the team to review should you need our help still.
We’d also like to hear more about this Apple Music issue that interferes with Music/iTunes tracks.
Thanks!
Just want to say thanks to @Michael_Wisniewski and @NathanielAlgo for all of your help! This seems to be an iTunes/Apple Music issue, as I noticed these recent iTunes purchases were unplayable on Serato Dj Pro as well.
I’m sorry if I caused any confusion by too many posts etc. I’ll try to quickly explain what happened, and what I plan to do for a workaround.
For the last 10+ years I have used to iTunes to purchase songs for first dances, and parent dances etc. at weddings. I preferred this way because at any time I could purchase a song from my iPhone and it would show up on my Macbook. Of course I also subscribe to record pools, but they don’t always have old songs etc. that one may be required to use at private events. As soon as I signed up for djay pro, it finally made sense to subscribe to Apple Music. As soon as I signed up for Apple Music it messed up my SDJ Pro library big time! I cared little, as I was switching to djay pro (still very happy I made the switch). Still being new to djay pro I assumed I could purchase songs off of iTunes to use for first dances but they are coming up as unplayable. I thought this was a problem native to djay pro but those purchases aren’t available on SDJ Pro either. To experiment I bought a song off of Amazon and it is both playable on djay pro and SDJPro. From now on I just plan to NOT use iTunes for those important purchases and will look to Amazon, record pools, etc. This issue seems to stem around signing up for Apple Music. Thank you for all of your help.
In the past, Apple Music has been reported to replace a saved mix of a song with a different, readily available mix from their streaming library. IDK if this is still true.
You should also check out us.7digital.com and qobuz.com for music purchases. They have an extensive catalog of classics at reasonable prices. I only buy lossless, so for me they have been my first sources to check, along with bandcamp.com, traxsource.com, junodownload.com, beatport.com and beatsource.com.
You do need to check those downloads carefully. I’ve had a case where a track had skips in it. This is how the label supplied the track to 7Digital. I’d bet its that way on other sites too. My customer service experience was excellent. 7Digital immediately refunded me.
