MIDI mapping Neural Mix Crossfaders

Neural mix crossfader is an absolute game changer for me. I love creating hip hop and r&b blends on the fly and being able to seamlessly blend stems is something I’ve been wishing for.

I’ve been toying with the new release and find that it’s quite easy to use stem crossfaders on my iPad. While not difficult on a MacBook, it’s just not as easy as the iPad.

It got me thinking about midi mapping. I don’t want to midi map controller knobs to act as neural mix crossfaders since I need to keep default functionality. It would be great to use an external midi crossfader or knobs to control neutral mix crossfader functionality.

Question, does anyone have experience with midi mapping external midi devices with Djay Pro and their controller? Does it work as expected?

Hi @d.Jaebren, thanks for the positive feedback. I have a lot of experience MIDI mapping controllers for djay.

  1. The best place to start is with this FAQ: https://help.algoriddim.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016055199-How-do-I-MIDI-map-a-controller-on-djay-for-iOS
  2. Once you’re comfortable with that, I can guide you through the specific commands you need to map.
  3. Also, if you’re thinking about a dedicated MIDI controller for this, you might want to check out Mojaxx’s video to see his Neural Mix Crossfaders mapped to the DJ TechTools Midi Fighter Twister (at the 5:18 mark): https://youtu.be/TA-_g2B4Omk?si=VGTQ0AkggGotqw1m

Thanks. I have experience midi mapping controllers in Djay Pro. My question was about midi mapping external midi devices and if it’s possible and/ or supported. Since it looks like it’s possible, I’ll check out the video to learn more.

Ah, do you mean like a stand-alone MIDI drum machine, synth, or something; not a MIDI controller?

We can remap the the eq knobs to be neural mix cross faders?

I just ordered an Akai lpd8. I figure I can midi map the knobs to act as neural mix crossfaders as seen in Mojaxx’s video. It should work since the lpd8 and Midi Fighter Twister in the video have the same functionality.

Secondary question. Can I midi map an lpd8 pad to the new fx such as fx > juggle > beatmasher?

Yes, you can. Check out Angelo’s YT video at the 9:30 min mark.

I saw that video this morning which made me think I could do it with an external midi devices. I prefer not to give up controller knobs.

I just tried to remap the eq knobs, in neural mix mode, to the crossfaders but it overrides both the eq mode and neural mix mode.

Congratulations on 5.3. Some very useful features! Is it possible to remap the Neural Mix Crossfaders to the EQ and filter knobs of channels 3 or 4 on a 4 channel mixer like the Rane Performer. This would allow us direct access to those Neural Mix Crossfaders. The Neural Crossfaders were not an option to be midi mapped on any of the channel controls.

Hi @DJAceMoney, yes, you can custom MIDI map your Deck 3/4 EQs to control the NM crossfaders. First you need to set the Target>Mixer, then scroll down to the Neural Mix Crossfader commands for each STEM.

Thank you @Slak_Jaw, this worked perfectly. It’s like a new controller. I also remapped out my Reloop Mixtour Pro as well!!

Excellent! You’re welcome @DJAceMoney. Happy to help!

iOS 18.3.2
iPad Pro 12.9 6th GEN
Pro 5.3.1

I watched Angelo ´s video a few times, but cannot get the Neural Mix Panel to show up - when the Mixtour Pro (latest firmware) is connected. The EQ section is not to be changed to Neural Mix crossfaders. It only shows up as shown when the Mixtour is disconnected - and disappears when re-connected again.
Any advice…?

Cheers Riff

Hi @Riff, the new Neural Mix Crossfaders are not MIDI mapped to the Mixtour Pro. In Angelo’s video, he customized the built-in MIDI mapping to add these controls to the Mixon 8 Pro.

Yes, I noticed that but why are the Neural Mix Crossfaders on iOS (as shown in the video) not accessible at all when the controller is connected?
I can only see (and use) them by switching from „EQ“ to „Neural Mix Crossfaders“ on the screen/software only.
With the Mixtour attached, this option is not available - and disappears instantly when previously active - when the iPad is connected via USB to controller/in controller mode.

Thanks, Riff

Hi again @Riff, you just need to switch from Hardware Mode to Pro Mode when your Mixtour Pro is connected. Then you can access the NM Crossfaders.

@Slak_Jaw
Thanks for the explanation, this indeed solved my problem!
I was not aware, that the „Hardware Mode“ does not include the „Pro“ (as the controller is called „Pro“ too… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:)

Great service!

Cheers, Riff
