Hey fellow DJs! I’m looking to upgrade my controller and I’m torn between the Reloop Mixon 8 and the AlphaTheta GRV6. Now that the GRV6 is working with DJay, I’m even more curious about how it compares. I’d love to hear your thoughts—what would you recommend and why? Any insights on workflow, build quality, or performance would be super helpful!
This is largely a question of personal preference. I would prefer almost any controller to the Mixon 8, simply because I can’t get anything out of the Mixon 8’s mirrored layout. But of course that’s also a question of habit.
Better to bay a DDJ FLX 10 if you have money.
I personally started with controllers, then moved on to CDJs and Denon players, only to eventually end up with turntables. I thought that would be the end of my journey, but over time, I realized I needed to be more flexible and mobile, so I decided to get a controller again. And I can’t even describe how perfectly the Reloop Mixon 8 Pro matched my taste. I never would have thought that I would want something like this.
Make sure to compare the outputs and inputs of each controller. The Mixon 8 can be used as a standalone 4-channel mixer (except for effects, which are software-only in this mode). You can play from two laptops/iPads/iPhones at the same time. Compared to the GRV6, you get a proper pad section and a pitch fader (as a heavy pad user, I can’t stand the tiny pads above the jog wheels). You can also plug turntables and play from vinyl or via DVS. Also unlocks Serato DJ Pro (but unfortunately not Serato DVS).
I’ve never had the slightest issue with the layout, but I guess that might vary from user to user.
