Native Instruments enters preliminary insolvency

As someone who used Traktor for years, this news make me feel pretty sad. A lot has been said about the lack of progress on the software side and it’s fair to say they have been lacking compared to the competition, but it was still solid, reliable and fun to use.

Hopefully they can pull through this really rough patch and produce something worth buying again.

Thanks for sharing @Archiesbald. Very sad news indeed. I was a Traktor user for about a decade.

Me too. I used to be a hardcore Traktor user, including being big into creating mappings for all sorts of controllers. I used to also be a big Maschine user, from the mk1 days. I also used to be a a Komplete Kontrol keyboard user for many years.

But I think this is NI’s fundamental issue. I used to be a user of all those NI things.

I think their decision to not go for a subscription model was brave in today’s market. There are many people who don’t like the subscription way of doing things, but maybe it hindered them as well?

I paid the extra money for the Traktor Pro version when it came out because I wanted to see if they could improve their software. Then I received no discount for Traktor 4 when it was released, and it stopped me from buying it all together. TBH I had already moved over to Djay some time before that and couldn’t see myself paying again for inferior software.

Does anyone know if DJ Tech tools had an informal connection to NI? It seems their lack of activity on the website has happened at the same time as NI’s decline. They don’t post many articles now, even though the vast majority of DJ Tech Tools equipment is first class.

It’s a real shame.

That’s mainly down to written media being swallowed up by video content. The same reason Mark let DJWORX go, and DigitalDJTips website gets a seldom amount of traffic compared to their YouTube channel.

Their hardware is serious stuff indeed. Very nice designs. Respect.

@Archiesbald, DJ TechTools is not connected to NI. They are 100% independent.

The DJWORX site still exists, under new ownership, and Mark’s old crew set up their own at roguedjs.com - but neither see a great deal of traffic.

It’s far too early to start banging nails in the NI coffin. Lots of people making assumptions and worrying about stuff that hasn’t happened yet, and may not happen at all.

It does yeah, they post the odd article now and then, and that youtube domination was the reason Mark let it go, I seem to remember him saying as much when it all happened. Shame really as a written review (with professional photos) is still better than a video imo.

I think we’ve seen enough speculation and misinformation in the past week PK  so hardly surprising it’s continuing with this story.

Reminds me of the “great toilet roll shortage” of 2020 during the pandemic :man_facepalming:

There was the “great fuel panic” in 2021 too

Thanks,

I know Ean Golden was a tester for them on a few products and with the lack of fresh output from DJ Tech Tools mirroring the decline of NI, I put 2 & 2 together to get 3.

I love their products and loved the website when it was leading the way with “controlerism”.

You’re welcome. Yes, he did some hardware collabs with NI and with Vestax. DJTT remains an independent company though.

I’ve been saying this in Traktor forum, I really hope Djay buys Traktor!

I’m curious, why? What would Traktor bring to Djay?

Do you remember the fuel panic in the late 90s/early 2000s too? When the fuel price went over £1, imagine that now

I think InMusic buying NI would be a disaster personally despite what many seem to be saying, it puts them firmly in hypocrite territory after the Serato thing. But as you said none of this is particularly relevant as we don’t know the story yet. I’ve read reports this is all being done to pave the way for the acquisition with those 2 companies.

I’d forgotten, but Izotope is part of NI. That is the cherry to pick from the bones of this insolvency. The effects and processing would be a real prize to acquire.

Hardware! and software wise, there are a lot of things Traktor does better than any other DJ software.

Sad news indeed. When I got there Kontol S4 back in 2010 it was just epic.

I also bought the S4 MK1 when it was first released. Ended up adding a pair of D2’s 5 years later. Definitely ahead of their time.
