Native Instruments enters preliminary insolvency

It’s really sad. I bought my first Traktor license in 2009. I have an X1, Z1, F1, and S5.

But I’ve seen this coming for years.

All this confusion with subscription models, then permanent licenses, and then a mixture of both. Nobody understood it, and very few people went along with it. I never used the subscription either. But I did every update, even the one to version 4. And I’ve just been disappointed over the last few years. They added features that nobody needed.

And so the ship slowly sank.

Since djay and Traktor are both German, could you guys save the day for Traktor users by natively supporting all their hardware?

this move will definitely will bring a lot of users to djay, but most amazingly you guys will win dj’s heart by doing this favor!

Hi @hardbea7, this sounds like a good topic for its own Suggestion… Perhaps with a list of hardware in order of priority. Just note that one of the main issues with their hardware is their closed ecosystem. So at a bare minimum the hardware needs to offer an option the switch to MIDI Mode.

This works quite well in MIDI mode with the X1, Z1, F1, and S5.

No, don’t panic.

But look at what I wrote in the NI Forum 2023:

https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/17031/ni-what-has-become-of-you#latest

The NI forum is full of posts like that. Other forums are full of posts like that.

….and like this:

“The product has been out a month now. It’s old. Why is there not a new one?”

“The last update was a week ago. Why is there not another update?”

“I want this feature. If you don’t add it now, I’m never going to use your product again”

“I haven’t read the instructions. Can someone tell me how to use it?”

“I updated my OS to one that’s not supported. Your product doesn’t work. Fix it now.”

:joy:

I think that would rule out the S4 mk3 which is a fantastic controller. I had one for a while but sold it when I moved to Djay.

I think the D2’s are fairly closed off as well regarding screen support etc.

I was really sad to hear the news. I’m sure they will pull through in some fashion like they have over the years, but I have been on the fence for about a year on whether to just completely switch to djay or not, and to me, this is the indicator I have been waiting for. I’m just tired of NI’s lack of attention and focus with Traktor. The roll out a new features or a new controller, and then crickets.

It’s rather painful, personally, because I’m so invested in Traktor (started playing with it in 2002, and then all in from 2006-2008 onward). But it feels like the right thing to do to move on. Algoriddim is doing all the right things with their software and with Apple, and they are always moving forward.

I have a Traktor Kontrol S4 mk2 that seems to work OK with djay, but I feel like I need a controller with deeper integration, so I’ll probably post a question over in hardware about what controller makes the most sense in 2026 (Mixon 8 maybe?).

At any rate, I’m just glad I’ve already started the transition with my Reloop Mixtour. That’s been fun. But I’m interested to see what the next chapter will bring.

I hear you. I was a dedicated Traktor user for many years to. Not as long as you but long enough. I love the software but developments are sooooooooo slow. But it does what it says on the tin. Software and tech moves on. Sadly Traktor was being left behind.

I fully jumped over to Djay Pro about 3 years ago after looking into it and more playing around with it from 2014. I love Djay Pro it’s so much fun and Algoriddim are always pushing what’s possible for djs to be more creative. I miss the warm rich sound of Traktor though.
