Pioneer DDJ REV5 jog wheels not accurate

Thanks @Five-0, I’ve passed your comment onto our engineering team.

I recently installed the Rev5 at my shop.

The pressure-sensitive jog wheel is completely useless; a soft touch—like the kind used on a turntable—just triggers a pitch bend.

You can’t scratch at all unless you make a conscious effort to press down on it.

Can this be improved by adjusting the MIDI response settings?

Hi @megamema, the jogwheel pressure sensitivity cannot be adjusted In the MIDI settings.

@megamema
I have a REV5 but can’t test anything rn.

Though, are you sure you are in VINYL mode ?

If I remember correctly, if you want to be in turntable/scratch mode, you have to activate VINYL mode. And if I remember correctly (again), the default mode (Vinyl on/off) is not the same with all DJ software (so you may want to try toggling this).

You may want to toggle that switch (or read about it to check if what I am suggesting makes sense or not). I hope this helps.

Thanks @Davidv100

Thank you for the advice.

I am using “Vinyl Mode.”
Since the response sensitivity in the “Scratch” section of the MIDI advanced settings is already set to the maximum value, there doesn’t seem to be any room for further adjustment within djay itself.

When I perform a “pull” motion (pulling towards myself) in djay, the jog wheel fails to respond—or more precisely, the track tends to keep playing instead of stopping. Unless I deliberately press down with extra force, the movement isn’t recognized.
The behavior is far removed from the feel of operating a CDJ or a turntable in a DVS setup, which is very disappointing.
I plan to try it out in Serato as well, just for comparison.

@megamema

I’ll do a test this week-end and let you know. At least you will know if another identical set-up is giving the same result, or not.
For the sake of replicating your set-up : Are you using an Ipad or a Macbook or something else ?

Hi again @megamema, this sounds like either a hardware issue with the jogwheels on your specific unit or simply a difference in “feel” compared to what you are used to. Please note that CDJs use mechanical jogwheels while the REV5 uses capacitive-touch jogwheels. These are very different in technology and feel.
