Pre Cue Headphones doesn’t work on Android 10 USB-C with djay 3.0.4 and Reloop Mixtour

Hi @Wardy1,

Our testing team is looking into creating a table in which we list which Android devices work best with certain controllers running specific Android OS versions.

This thread is similar in nature to this one which you already commented on. I will be merging this thread with that one for better community management.

Thanks!

Hi @Toorg,

Thanks for posting to the community!

We have heard of users writing in about a similar issue. May I ask what version of djay for Android you are using?

Looking forward to your response!

Any news @NathanielAlgo

Hi everyone,

After doing some community thread organization I see that @SnAkEs1210 has bumped this old Android thread for review.

I will be merging this one with the current Android 10 USB-C pre-cueing thread linked below.

Thanks, all!

Hello NthanielAlgo.

I have the same Issue.
Samsung Active Pro Tablet Android 11. Reloop Beatpad 2. Algoriddim DJAY I also paid for all upgrades.
I am troubleshooting this for a week now. I am ready to ditch it all and go back to Vestax VCI and Windows.

But here is my last attempt.

I think it has to do with the USB Audio Drivers from Android/Samsung
On my research I found the follwing Audio Evolution Mobile for Android (extreamsd.com)

“…eXtream Software Development has written a custom USB audio driver from scratch because Android did not support USB audio until Android 5. Even Android 5 and upward has very limited support for USB audio devices (see below) and as such this driver remains very useful for every Android version higher than 3.1. Next to that, our driver provides low latency, making it possible for example to play virtual instruments in real-time on many devices that cannot do this using the Android driver…”

Hooking up the Beatpad 2 to their trail version lets me choose between Channel 1-2 and Channel 2-3 (Head phone Cue)…
AND IT WORKS !

Just copy their approach
So please work this out.

By the way I tried it on a Friend’s LG Phone with Android 11 and DJAY + Beat Pad worked 100% out of the BOX. So must be a problem with certain Makers USB Audio Drivers

There’s the real problem. It might be your particular tablet, it might be your vendors Android version, it might be the firmware of the Beatpad in combination with your USB interface or drivers. Who knows…

Does the OS see the Beatpad sound channels to begin with (can you use them with other software)?

If not, then you’ll have to ask the other parties first, because in that case it sure doesn’t look like it’s something Algoriddim should / can fix…

To be clear: one might be able to write their own low level stuff, but apart from the effort there are standards for a reason.

Well I chatted with samsung for a bit but nower days support is so complicated the bigger the companies are. And since I found this Audio Evolution Mobile for Android being able to play on Channel 1-2 and 2-3 seperately on the same Tablet same USB hub same Beatpad 2 … Algoriddim should be able to do it too.

The current state of Samsung Active Pro and the S8 Samsung phone is that Channel 1-2 and 2-3 come out of the Master out. When you press cue it will be laid on top of the Master. Headphone port is not getting any signal.

For sure. Hopefully Algoriddim can do something for you, but sadly I wouldn’t be surprised if they can’t do a lot.

If you’re lucky it’s a simple tweak they can fix, but writing custom USB audio drivers from scratch is not straightforward at all and frankly Algoriddim shouldn’t have to be doing that in the first place if the hardware and OS would be working as advertised.

Meanwhile I’d try to contact Reloop too if I were you.

I reached again out to Reloop that’s the answer:

“as stated in my mail before, for compatibility with your specific android device you will have to wait for Algoriddim to give you an answer. Our following controllers are compatible with android: Beatpad 2, Mixtour, Mixon 4, Buddy & Ready. The described issue is not an issue with the hardware but with the software as it is not easy for Algoriddim to make all kind of android devices compatible as each device uses different hardware components. Thats why we promote our controllers mainly for iOS as the integration between hard- and software works way more smoothly.”

I sell all this shit. A 1000$ Tablet and a 1000$ Controller. And I make sure I will leave a google review!

FWIW, a much cheaper iPad would have done the job better.

The answer is not consistent either, as they state correctly it does have to do with different hardware. Still, Algoriddim should be clear on what works or not. Recommended hardware maybe?

I have been talking to Algoriddim support for months now. Basically i don’t think anything can be done/will be done. Algoriddim’s dev team are now focusing their efforts on creating a list of devices that actually work with their software and reloops controllers.

I have asked them if they have tested any android tablets and if they could let me know of any that work but they declined and said that they are still working on the list which seems a bit odd. I only need one tablet to work and then i will purchase that one but they seem to want to keep their findings secret until they have a full list.

Annoyingly, i feel like i could have sent my tablet back for a refund at the start of all this but unfortunately Algoriddim kept telling me that they were working on a fix. Now it seems that a fix is not likely and instead a list of working devices will be released which means that my tablet will probably never work and its now too late to send it back.

I also can’t see what is taking so long with the list, its litterally been months now. I can’t imagine that many current devices work and as a result i would think that the list they are creating is very small. i just feel it would be a great help to release what they have got so far so it feels like something is moving in the right direction.

Yes, i also did the same. Originally Algoriddim told me that my reloop beatpad was defective and that i would need to contact reloop and send it for repair.

I emailed reloop and explained the issue all over again and straight away they told me that it is a known issue, that the beatpad was not defective and that it is a software issue.

I then contacted Algoriddim support again who didn’t want to accept that reloop had said these things so i had to forward the emails i received from reloop to Algoriddim.

Algoriddim then said that they would contact reloop themselves over the issue but the outcome was ever fed back to me.

I am now waiting for a list of all working devices to be released.

Hi All,

I’d just like to clarify a few things about Android devices, djay for Android, and our natively supported controllers, as from many of the posts on this thread there seems to be a lot of confusion around this topic.

To confirm, the MIDI controllers listed on our website’s hardware page are natively supported with djay for Android. Please note that some of these listed controllers also have an audio interface built-in with separate channels for master/speaker and headphone output. You can find a full updated list of natively supported controllers here:

That said, unfortunately it turns out (and some users have reported) that some Android devices do not fully support audio output via external multi-channel audio interfaces such as the ones built into these MIDI controllers, which can result in distorted audio output or no audio on the controller’s headphone output.

As others have said on this thread, Android can be a rather complex environment, as there are many factors that might be contributing to your specific Android device not working with djay and its supported controllers. For example, the particular tablet/phone itself and the Android version are two such possible contributing factors.

Our best advice at this moment is that if your Android device does not work correctly with an external device, please first ensure that you have installed all available software and security updates for your device using the Android settings app.

In addition, our team is in touch with the respective manufacturers to get this resolved, but for the time being we can regrettably not offer the full djay experience on some devices. I hope this information is helpful in clearing some things up here, and please don’t hesitate to reach out with additional questions or feedback.

Hi @Emily

Yeah, I posted a screenshot of the midi controllers that are natively supported in this discussion quite a while back

I actually used that list as a guide when I was looking to purchase a controller. This was to make sure that I got the right one and that everything would work with the Algoriddim app. Based on the list, I purchased the reloop beatpad.

I also purchased a samsung galaxy tab S7 plus to use with the app and controller but this configuration never worked and no matter what I did, I could not get any audio to come through the headphones. The controller is totally useless without this very basic but necessary feature.

At first I thought I had wasted money buying a tablet specifically for djaying but was satisfied that I had enough android devices around my home that I would get it working, albeit, on a smaller screen. Unfortunately, I couldn’t have been more wrong and it turns out that I have wasted money purchasing the supposedly natively supported controller as well.

So after testing on my samsung tab s7 plus, I plugged the controller into my samsung galaxy note 10 plus. Once again, no audio through the headphone output.

Thinking the problem might be a compatibility issue with samsung devices, I then moved on to other brands of android device. So, I tried no less than 3 different sony android phones, 1 sony android TV, various different generic android TV boxes and 1 nvidia shield.

All these devices currently have the lastest available android version. Some devices, have even been tested on multiple versions of android, ie, my tablet and phone have gone from android 10 to android 11 to android 12 over the years that this problem has been in existence.

During this time I have also seen multiple threads created on here, mostly customers complaining of the issue, with an odd comment from a moderator, once every 6 months promising that the issue is being worked on etc and then those threads get closed down due to inactivity.

I have seen people complaining about other android devices that also have the same issue as what I am experiencing. So the problem isn’t even isolated to Samsung, Sony or nvidia devices. I have seen people complain about Xiaomi, Plus 1, Lenovo, and Huawei devices so along with Sony, Samsung and Nvidia, thats quite a list.

When talking about android versions, again, I feel that this is not isolated to any specific version and has been present on all that I tested. Out of my sony phones, the oldest one is on android 9, the next oldest one is on android 11 and the latest one is on android 12. My sony TV is on android 8.

So I have tested 8 android devices, ranging from android 8 to android 12, different brands of android device, different types of android device ie tablets, phones, TVs and TV boxes etc and absolutely none work. This kind of begs the question, which devices do actually work because from my point of view it doesnt look like any do.

I have asked Algoriddim support if they can provide me a list of devices that work but they cannot provide me with this infromation. Month after month, they respond to my email saying they are still working on a list. Getting rather frustrated and fed up with having to wait years for a solution or even an update, I asked them if they could please let me know of any devices that they know to work with the app and natively supported controllers and they declined saying they will release a full list some time in the future.

My question to you @Emily is, do you know of any android devices that work with the natively supported controllers and Algoriddim djay app? The chances are you don’t, will fail to respond to my question and I won’t hear anything more from you until of course, I post a comment in a different thread and you inform me that you removed it for being in the wrong thread. Obviously my comments belong solely in threads that are destined to be closed due to inactivity.

@Emily we was in the process of clearing up the confusion that you mentioned but you have now gone quiet since I asked you a question.

We have established that the majority of us have purchased the recommended, natively supported, Algoriddim endorsed midi controllers but it would appear that we have also all purchased incompatible android devices.

The only feasible solution to the problem is to purchase another android device that is compatible.

So what android tablet works correctly with the list of natively supported midi controllers that you highlighted in your post?

It ahould be a very simple question for Algoriddim to answer, I’m not asking for a full list, I am literally asking for one device to be named.

@Emily people have obviously tested a whole host of android devices so we can rule out all these in previously unanswered and subsequently closed down threads.

Still no update on this then?

Hi @Wardy1,

Currently, our teams are still collaborating on a resolution with other software developers and hardware manufacturers.

We will continue to update this thread as soon as new information comes in. Thank you for your patience.
