Proposal for improving usability of “Related & Matching” tracks in Djay

Introduction
This proposal outlines suggested improvements to the usability of the “Related & Matching Tracks” feature in DJay Pro. These options are all to be found within the sidebar functions (when enabled these are on the right side of the software on macOS).

The enhancements aim to make finding matching tracks easier and more versatile and efficient for users.

Part 1:

  1. Currently matching tracks can only be found for a track in the Active Deck OR by dragging and dropping a music file manually. This looks like this:

DJay Side Panel Find math For..

  1. But it would work much more versatile and flexible when these possibilities would be broadened by having the option to also show matching tracks for the 'Selected Track", and for “Deck 1”, “Deck 2”, etc. (Just like it is here in the information Tab);

So here is my suggestion:

Can we add this ability here to the matching panel to select “Deck 1,” “Deck 2,” AND “Selected (Track)”, just like it works already in the Information Tab?

==> This would reduce the need for constant drag-and-drop actions to find the best matches, as you may not always want to find matches only for an active deck—especially when preparing sets. Implementing these changes would make the software more user-friendly and competitive with alternatives like Rekordbox.

Part 2:
Currently, users can only choose to find matches FROM the complete music sources selected in the left panel (e.g., Local Music, Apple Music, Tidal, Beatsource, etc.). and not from only ‘partial selections’.

This looks like this:
Djay Side Panel Match Against

This can (and will) create a lot of clutter, especially if, for example, your Apple Music collection includes a lot of different genres or even “non-DJ music”. Additionally, using entire sources like Tidal or Beatport as reference points can generate too many possible (but unusable) matches, as they do come from different genres as well.

I would like to add the possibility to filter matches by other partial directories or playlist

How would this work?

  • Provide an option to search for matches within a specific playlist rather than the entire collection.
  • Users should be able to right-click on a playlist (or nested set of playlist) and set it as the source for a “match directory”.
  • These assigned directories can be choosen as another source in the Match-panel for finding matches
  • This would help DJs find relevant tracks without sifting through unsuitable options.

Great suggestion @DJ_Big_Blender. Thank you for the clear explanation. I have already shared this with the dev team. I’ll let you know if they have any follow up questions…
