RANE Performer motor on sound issue

I have an issue with a short sound issue, that only happens when motors are turned on.
After a second after hitting Play, this small interference of the sound happens.

I am on MacBook Pro M3 (24gb), on MacOS 15.0 and djay 5.2.4.

I have a video, but can not upload it here.

Can you upload using drop box, YouTube etc?

Maybe this works

Yes that works but I have to say I can’t hear anything that sounds incorrect. Maybe it’s because it’s a video recording. Maybe someone else can jump into hear and see if they spot something.

You will probably need to hear this on a live system. I guess it’s a thing with the motor.
It’s not there when using Serato.

A longer clip. Recorded in Djay

Hi @RobustaDK,

Thanks for sharing this issue with us. I assume you are speaking about this slight high-pitched wailing/screeching. Is that correct?

Could you confirm whether or not you are only hearing this from the controller itself due to you being so close to it, or is the sound also coming through the speakers of your live system?

Thanks!

This sound is also present when I do recording. So not a mechanical sound if this is what you refer to.

djay 5.5 Release Notes:

  • RANE ONE, ONE MKII, PERFORMER: added motor-off support

I just tested this again.

In this clip you can hear the second song after some seconds. The sound gets sped up really shortly.
This is still a problem for the Rane One MK2 and Performer on both iPad and Mac.

At 0:20 ish

Hi @RobustaDK, sorry to hear you are still experiencing this issue. Can you please confirm the following for both controllers and for both your iPad and Mac. Please note that RANE recently release new firmware for at least the RANE One MK2 (I’m not sure about the performer). Thanks!

Device Model (ex. 2020 iPad Air 4th Gen):
Version of operating system (ex. iOS 17.3.1):
Version of djay (ex. 5.1.3):
Hardware/controllers used (ex. Reloop Ready):
Hardware Firmware Version (ex. 2.7):

Since this sounds repeatable, can you please capture and share a short video of the issue to help clarify what’s happening? Thanks!

I did not see this. I will try again.
I had a new iPad M4. The iPad version “crashes” after appr 1 hour. So I am testing different hubs and cables. Might be caused by the M4/TB4. But I will try this with the new firmware as well.

It’s not always happening, so it takes a while to make those small videos.
When I use the Silent Cue function it never happens.

Okay, thanks for checking @RobustaDK. Also, thanks for the full setup details. I’ve shared this all with our engineering team. Please note, that several members are away on vacation this week, so it may take a bit longer for them than normal to review this. Thanks for understanding!

The problem has been in the software for more than a year. So a few weeks don’t really matter.

Thanks for understanding @RobustaDK

here is an extra little recording. You hear in on all tracks. The last is maybe the clearest.

This bit was recorded on a Rane One mk2 on a M3 iPad Pro 1000gb.

Thanks @RobustaDK, I’ll share this with the team…

Hi @RobustaDK, sorry for the delayed reply. Our engineering team has not been able to reproduce this issue.

  1. Could you please capture and share a short video including steps to reproduce the issue?
  2. Does it happen with streaming or local files?
  3. Are you using the default audio settings?
