How would this work on a CDJ or other standalone device? As I imagine it would run into the same issues due to them also having fixed narrow playlist trees.
Wouldn’t it be better to have a master playlist with the repeatable naming then sub playlist inside for the individual data at the end of the string? I think the trouble with saying “im not going to change what I do” puts you in an awkward position if the company say “oh well we’re not changing how our software works”, because ultimately it’s your own workflow that suffers.
Yes indeed, and in fact that’s what I thought of about 30 seconds after posting the suggestion.
My parent folder in this example is “New Tracks” - I could just drop the “New Tracks” from the start of each playlist so that the string starts with the date in Japanese format.
I guess what I meant by “I’m not changing my workflow” was more about this is my naming convention for new tracks for over 10 years.
As you say, this would also assist with other devices such as CDJs where this could be a factor.
Yeah I think a ‘new tracks 2026’ master crate (as it’s called in Serato) with whatever your separators are as sub crates would be a lot more organised and also stop you not seeing the details.
You might have uncovered an issue with Apple Music libraries however, I don’t think they can be split down into sub playlists so the issue would still be there for those libraries.
