REV5 Crossfader bleed on iOS

  • Device model: iPad Pro 13-inch M4
  • Version of operating system: 18.6.2
  • Version of djay: 5.5.2
  • Hardware/controllers used: Pioneer Rev 5
  • Hardware firmware version: 1.02
  • Please consider sharing a short video or screenshots to help clarify your issue

A) SUMMARY OF ISSUE:
The physical crossfader cut knob, when turned all the way to the right gives a full bleed, such that it essentially makes the crossfader do nothing. tuning it back slightly will drastically change the behavior such that you can achieve a blending crossfader, but it still bleeds some audio when crossfader is fully open or closed

B) DETAILED STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
turn hardware crossfader cut knob completely to the right
observe crossfader now not functional, allows bleeding audio

C) EXPECTED RESULTS:
the crossfader should be in the most minimal ‘cut’ mode, when completely on the right side, no audio escapes from the left deck. opening it slightly should give full volume

D) ACTUAL RESULTS:
when fully faded to the right, all left deck audio is audible, and vice versa

Hi @yeahdef, Sorry to hear you’re experiencing this issue. Thanks for the details about your setup and the issue - this is very helpful! Since this sounds repeatable, can you please capture and share a short video of the issue to help clarify what’s happening?

Can you please share a screenshot of your Crossfader Curve settings in djay?

here’s a video explaining the issue.

doesn’t happen with serato or rekordbox.
doesn’t even happen with djay on mac OS, this is specific to iOS djay and the rev 5.

Hey there, have you tried adjusting the cross fader in the pioneer rev 5 utility for Mac?

https://support.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/articles/21327144485273-DDJ-REV5-Utility-Software-for-Mac

Try it if not and adjust to your taste. I don’t have a rev 5 now but I remembered when I did I did adjust it to my taste.

@Dysfunk_DJ yes - I have done that. it seems to only affect the mac OS version, not the iOS version.

Quite weird. Try and plug your iphone onto that thing, see if it behaves same manner

Thanks for the video and additional info @yeahdef. I don’t have access to a REV5 to check for myself so I’ve passed this onto our hardware team to see if they can reproduce it on their end. I’ll report back when I have news. Thanks!

same exact behavior on the phone

thanks @Slak_Jaw - I will wait a bit for them to review.

You’re welcome @yeahdef. Sounds good.

Not a solution to the issue, just a side story. I have a REV5 and I actually unbind, that knob totally both on iOS and Mac, and just selecting the crossfader mode in the apps, since I was turning the knob with my shirt all the time accidentally.

Thanks for sharing @Roland_Palasti

Hi again @yeahdef, sorry for the delayed reply. Our engineering team was not able to reproduce this. Can you please confirm if you are using the default (built-in) MIDI mapping for the REV5 and default Audio Settings? If not, can you please you please switch to the (built-in) MIDI mapping and press the Reset to Defaults button at the bottom of the djay Settings>Audio Devices page? Retest and let me know if the issue persists. Thanks!

Just tried it. Using latest djay iOS update 5.6
Same exact issue.
I would say maybe the hardware is faulty, but this is an issue exclusive to iOS djay.
I’ve tried it on multiple iOS devices.
Can you confirm your engineering team tested it out with an iOS device (not Mac OS)

Thanks @yeahdef, can you please review my comment from earlier?

I did, and I tried exactly what you described, and it is still giving me the same problem.

Thanks for the follow up @yeahdef. I’ll let the team know.

@yeahdef You might want to check whether the crossfader is dirty internally. There could be dust or a small particle preventing it from making proper contact when moved fully to the right.

@Half just curious - were you able to reproduce this on an iOS device?

Engineering tested this using multiple iOS devices running on iOS18 and iOS26 with djay 5.5.2 and REV5 firmware 1.02, and with the same CF settings shown in your video. This seems most likely to be an issue with your hardware.
