This question is not specifically related to the use of Djay. I basically have old tracks - of my own- that are a little loose (created on hardware including an Atari so you would get some lag), so I’d like to re-grid them them so-to-speak to have tighter files. Yes, I’m aware you candy this on the fly in Djay, but that’s not what I’m looking for. I’m looking for software (probably) that can do this job and export without any loss of audio quality. I had a go using flex in GarageBand, but it is a laborious manual process, need something, that can do this automatically. It’s not clear if Neural Mix Pro does this. What does?
Hi @N_C, djay’s Fluid Beatgrid system should be able to handle this automatically. If the system doesn’t get it perfect, you can just drop manual Anchor Points to make adjustments. Neural Mix Pro also has the Fluid Beatgrid system.
Thanks, I took another look at Abelton, but it’s too fiddly, much like GarageBand, I need something that automates it, like Djay does, but I need to be able to export it. You should add this neural mix pro.
I asked Chat GPT, it said (summarised) ..
GarageBand Flex Time** → Free, simple, but slow/manual for full tracks.
Reaper → €60, powerful transient detection + quantise/stretch, much better for tightening whole tracks.
Melodyne → Best automatic results, but very expensive.
You’re welcome @N_C. Thanks for the additional
Info.
“You may also want to look at the latest release of Neural Mix Pro 2.0. We added Fluid Beatgrids and the ability to batch export songs with quantization for fluctuating BPMs.”
Thanks. I took a look at reaper, again very fiddly. I’m not sure we’re on the same page in regard to Fluid Beatgrids. When I say export, I’m talking about the audio file, just need to forget about DJ software, it’s not relevant. I want an audio file that fixes any BPM fluctuation. Can NP do that? If so, where can I get guidance? I did try it but I couldn’t see anything like that in the app or manual.
Hi @N_C, yes, the stand alone Neural Mix Pro 2.0 software on macOS can export the corrected tracks. Please note that Neural Mix Pro and djay Pro are separate apps.
RELEASE NOTES:
August 07, 2024
Neural Mix Pro 2.0.2
Batch export: added option to apply quantization for tracks with fluctuating BPMs when exporting entire playlists
Batch export: added option to export the original track with quantization applied, alongside individual stems
Ok, great. If I can export a quantised track, without messing around, making manual adjustments - as all the DAW’s seem to require - that is basically what I’m looking for. However, finding out how to do it is another matter; as I’ve already taken a look.
Ok thanks, so you have a track that fluctuates between 124.50 and 125.50, you set as dynamic, then export at target 125 with Quantize on right? This works without separation? So apart from tempo adjust I’ll get the track back exactly, sonically as I imported?
I purchased NMP, so far it’s not working, still loads of manual adjustments. I’ll keep trying, but if its not going to work for this use I’ll be looking for a refund.
Hi @N_C, please share the specific song details for any tracks that NMP’s Fluid Beatgrid system doesn’t automatically apply the correct dynamic beatgrid. Then I can share these with our engineering team for further analysis. Please also share screenshots of your Settings in NMP. Thanks!
Will do, I’ll do a few more tests, to see how consistent it seems. In the meantime, is there anything you can share in terms of technically, whats happening under the hood here? Both in terms of quantising, but also stem separation? I’ve been using Audio Strip (Premium option) with good results, but this has a monthly subscription fee. I dont mind paying that if I get good results (I’m talking about stem separation not quantising here), but if I’ve also paid for NMP, and quality is equal then it’s surplus to requirements.
Ok, so the jury is out on this. basically concerning this one specific track (I honestly haven’t had time to check others), I’ve ended up doing manual adjustments post NMP quantising, which defeats the object. However I’m open to the possibility that “it’s me, not you”. Maybe results aren’t expected to be perfect, maybe I’m over analysing, maybe this track is difficult to read as a waveform (the kick is not very clear tbh) - I don’t know. So if at all possible, I think the best thing is for me to send over the specific track and to get someone else’s opinion. Attached Mp3 is pre-quantising. Screenshot shows manual adjustments made to post quantised version.
Hi @N_C, regarding your question of what is technically going on under the hood, I don’t have anything that I can share with you there. As for this particular track, I had a quick look in NMP on my setup and it seems to have done a good job of quantizing to me. However, I have shared this track with our engineering team for further analysis. Please note that the specific engineer for Fluid Beatgrids is away on vacation at the moment though. I’ll report back when I hear back. Thanks!
Hi again @N_C, our engineer also looked at your file. This track seems completely straight (quantized) and gets analyzed accordingly, so we’re not sure what you are experiencing/expecting here. Perhaps you could also share your exported quantized/warped version, so we can better understand what you mean? Thanks!
Hi @paazel, welcome to the Community! The beatgrids are not exported when exporting files from NMP. However, you can use NMP to time-stretch (quantize) the song and effective turn a dynamic beatgrid song into a straight beatgrid song. Once, you’ve done this, Rekordbox and Serato should have no issues applying a normal straight beatgrid to the songs.
