Support for Teenage Engineering EP-136 K.O. Sidekick Mixer

I actually set my mixer mode to external now and send deck 1 + 2 both to channel 1 - 2 on the USB input. Pre-cueing still to 3 - 4. This allows me to enable hardware mode and gives me some better real estate.

Hi, yeah its set to multi and I can confirm theres no issue with the KO itself as it works as intended when using Rekordbox via my Windows laptop.

There just appears to be no possible setting via my Samsung android for external or channel outs. I just get the split cue thing which isn’t right.

Thanks

Hi @Peak, the audio setup for djay on Android is automatic. There is no manual setting for Internal or External mixer mode. If you have configured the Sidekick correctly as an external mixer and not a MIDI controller it should work fine with djay on Android. On the Sidekick either set the MIDI mode to OFF or ON, but NOT CONTROL. I tested on my Android phone and it worked fine. Make sure you turn up the master and headphone volume on your Android device and do the same on the Sidekick.

Thanks @Slak_Jaw,

I have double checked and the USB out is set to multi on the KO and midi is off. Both tracks in Djay just route to the first fader the KO. I can’t get anything into fader 2 to be able to mix properly.

I’m using a Samsung S22, maybe its a Samsung issue .

Thanks

Hi again @Peak, I had a bit more time to test this out. Turns out mine is also sending all audio to CH1 on the Sidekick. I’m pretty sure this is actually a limitation with Android OS and how it handles multi-channel audio.

@Slak_Jaw thank you, I appreciate you checking.

A bit frustrating as this is a great potential setup for dj planning on the go, but also understand you can only work with what youve got. Clearly iOS is more flexible in that respect.

You’re welcome @Peak

Hi Guys, long time ipad user here. Just ordered 2 of these.

Has anyone tried using 2 sidekicks simultaneously, utilizing 4 decks?

Hi @smon, I only have one of these, but see no reason why you can’t use 2. Looking forward to hearing how this works out for you.

Hey @Slak_Jaw thanks for your response.

I guess I’ll be the ā€œversuchskaninchenā€ then.

My concern is because of 2 interfaces and potential conflicts that might arise, but we shall see.

Will report results as soon as I test the setup.

I ordered two cos they’re so cheap right now  haven’t unwrapped the second yet in case I decide to send it back.

I’d guess one will be master and handle host comms and the other will act as a slave, or just as a MIDI controller. I haven’t decided if I wanna go internal or external yet.

You’re welcome @smon

That’s them sold out on the official website and on Amazon. There are a few kicking around on the usual outlets, but you’ll have to be quick now.

I just ordered one myself out of pure curiosity.

Still a bunch here for £120 until 7th Aug: Teenage Engineering KO-Sidekick - Andertons Music Co.

My thinking was the same: this has got to be the cheapest 4 channel system in existence.

if it works, that is :game_die:

Hi there,

I’ve been using the EP-136 audio interface on my iPad with the Djay Pro app for the past few months. However, after the latest update, the app now requires me to upgrade to a premium subscription to use the EP-136 with it. What happened?

Hi @moo, welcome to the Community! We added basic audio interface mapping for this hardware with djay 5.6.8. Can you please confirm if you are using the device in Internal Mixer Mode or External Mixer Mode? Thanks!

See above for more info:

Thanks for the reply! I’ve managed to solve it - I had to reset EP-136 settings to USB → MULTI. I had it set to AUX before. The prompt in the app throw me off for a second… It now works fine as audio interface for Djay. I guess MIDI mode for EP-136 is still locked for Premium?

You’re welcome @moo. Yes, a Pro subscription is required for MIDI control.
