Support for the Roland DJ 707m

Saying “nobody asked you” is something that can end any discussion. Ultimately, Omar_Becerra simply stated that he no longer believes there will be any further support for the DJ-707M; that’s his opinion, and it can and should be accepted, just as others accept that there are many who are determined to stick with this controller - which is also not necessarily understandable to others.

So everyone has their reasons for one thing or another, and perhaps the previous comment is simply based on an assessment of probabilities, because I no longer believe that anything else is coming. And sometimes it’s better to accept reality than to constantly wait for something to change.

I’ve been mapping my Roland DJ-505 and I have to say it’s a real pain in the backside to map reliably.

So imho I think that the Devs have probably had a look at the Roland controllers in the past and wondered whether it’s worth the effort trying to get it to work.

I love my Roland DJ-505 and I’d love it to be fully supported, but with Roland showing very little interest in the DJ market any longer, I am looking for a supported replacement.

I signed up for the one week trial of DJayPro to see if I could map my Roland 707. I will tell you that I know nothing about mapping and it is pretty tough. I probably won’t be renewing my yearly subscription since the Roland 707 doesn’t seem to be supported. It is a shame that you will lose out on subscriptions and new customers since you don’t seem to want to map most “popular” controllers.

Hi @Blacktiesounds, welcome to the Community! Thanks for the feedback.

I’ve spent many hours mapping my Roland DJ-505 and I have it to the point where it is usable, but certainly not ready for the big time. But I’ve enjoyed Djay so much that I’ve decided to move on from Roland, who don’t seem to have any interest in the dj market anymore anyway, and to purchase a Djay supported controller that also still works with Serato.

Thanks for sharing @BillPayer

Although it’s an excellent controller, the Roland 707m is used by very few users worldwide, so much so that Roland itself no longer develops them and has withdrawn from the DJ market. I recommend changing controllers because Djaypro is a very valid program that offers different features than other competitors, such as the ability to be used with an iPad. Maybe try looking at supported hardware and switching controllers.

The ability to use the iPad or iPhone is still the best argument for Djay in my opinion. I don’t want to go back to having to carry a laptop around with me. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Agreed. I’ve been DJing on a iPad for 7 years now. You’d have a hard time convincing me to go back to a laptop as well!

The fact that I can seamlessly use either my iPad or MacBook Air is the biggest selling point for Djay for me personally. So much so, that I’ve discounted the excellent Rane Four from my list of potential controllers to replace my Roland dj-505.

Yo… if y’all talking nonsense which everyone already knows, please start another topic. This thread is specifically for “Support for the Roland DJ-707M.” If you’re against it so much, it’s better to open a separate designated discussion instead of dragging this one off-topic.

No one said we don’t like to use iPad or other controllers. The point is that there are only a few well-made 4-channel controllers with good build quality, sound quality that are supported by Djay and still available on the market!!!

List of personal picks considering, build quality, sound quality, availability!

Traktor Kontrol S3
Numark NS4FX
Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX10
RANE FOUR & PERFORMER (No iOS)
Reloop Mixon 8 Pro

(I’ve gone through djay’s supported hardware list, only these are really considerable. If you think there is better controllers comment it, I honestly wish djay supported everything like VirtualDJ so we wouldn’t even need to have this discussion.)

My only real pick from this list is the Performer, but the size!! That’s exactly why I’d personally love to see 707M in the list!!

I’d have loved to see the whole Roland controller line compatible with Djay. But after trying to map the DJ-505, I can see that it would be very difficult to get it done. And with Roland seemingly out of the DJ World now, is it likely that Roland would work with Djay to get it done? I’m just being realistic.

That’s probably how it has to be here. If nothing has happened after such a long time, Algoriddim won’t do anything now, especially if the controller isn’t being continued by the manufacturer itself.

Don’t get me wrong, I also wanted support for the DJ-707M and wrote a post about it here. Ultimately, however, using Djay as software was more important to me than sticking with a specific controller at all costs.

Don’t just give us hope and be quiet about it please.. eagerly waiting for it to support on mac

Algoriddim should be more proactive. It’s only 4 Roland controllers anyways and no screen! and bringing Roland back into DJ world would be amazing. They could collaborate with Roland the same way they’ve worked closely with Reloop, and it would be incredible to see Roland and Algoriddim create a true flagship controller for djay together.

Thanks for the continued feedback @hardbea7

Djay’s problem is hardware at this point, not everybody likes Rane performer or FLX 10, or Mixon 8 pro, battle mixers, other than this there is non really… sad

only flagship made for Djay is Mixon 8 pro, that didn’t do well. and also its been 4 years since release, its time to have something new and better

I do agree with you on the Mixon 8 pro and I had hoped for an update for that controller at NAMM this year. With dedicated STEMS control, like you get with the Rane Four and Pioneer FLX-10, but my hopes were dashed.

I’ll see if I can get a definitive yes or no answer from our dev team regarding this…

Appreciate it, thank you so much for always understanding and being considerate from the users point of view :folded_hands:
