The greyed out tracks can be re-activated by doing a “relink” operation. @Slak_Jaw explained how earlier in this thread (February 22, 2024).
Basically you have to re-import your “giant” folder as linked files in the “Files” section. Then you add all those linked files to a dummy playlist in “My Collection”. You can delete the dummy list after relinking. Now the tracks should no longer be greyed out.
The big problem with this work flow, is that on iOS/iPadOS you can’t just point to the root of your “giant” folder and import recursively. You have to go down into each subfolder that contains audio files and add all to the dummy playlist. Very impractical if you have a deep structure with many subfolders.
To work around this annoying issue, I flatten my “giant” folder from my Mac into a single folder. This flattened folder can then be imported in one go on iOS/iPadOS, and relinked into My Collection.
One issue I have now, is that iCloud sync of cue points and auto mix start/stop points etc. does not work. I don’t know if it is related to this way of keeping the DJ library synced across devices.
I’m guilty of having folders and sub folders and playlists that share tracks from different folders and playlists. I don’t use iTunes (because ew) and the iCloud sync seems questionable based on how syncing isn’t really Algoriddim’s forte.
Ok …so I’m going to try to add the ridiculous extra steps of copying my “giant” folder to an actual computer , then flattening (no sub folders), then copying that “flat giant” folder to the iPad. Then creating a “dummy playlist”, adding the entire “flat giant” folder to that playlist and then ……. All grey tracks should become un-greyed and accessible. Will try and report back.
Even if this works, this is the opposite of a streamlined/organized workflow. Library handling and syncing is the only major problem I’ve encountered with djay. Other than that , I’ve been happy since switching from Serato.
Hi @N_C, please use search before creating new topics. I have merged your new topic with this existing one. This is not currently possible. However, you can vote for this feature at the top left of this page. Thanks!
Oh Man, the music library is always the letdown. I suppose that’s reflective of DJ culture these days, all about the bells & whistles, music is just an afterthought.
Rekordbox has the best library syncing function I’ve seen out of any DJ app - device agnostic via Dropbox. I want to be able to prepare beatgrids & playlists etc on my windows machine then have this synced to my mac. This would be an enormous win for Algoriddim if they could implement something similar in Djay Pro.
I definitely would love to see this feature added.
the best workaround I found is to simply use the regular library and create a folder named say “DJ Set X” and to copy\paste the actual song files into that folder.
The good thing with Djay is that it will “remember” the cue points and everything across any place you’ll throw the same MP3 file into.
So whatever changes, cue points\edits I do with the file in my overall library will be copied to the SET file as well.
What is the point of iCloud syncing if at the very least distributing playlists among Djay app enabled, iCloud based devices? What exactly is being synced with iCloud?
It’s great to see that you’re reading the feedback, but what I think we all want is a definitive update. Even if it’s to say “we are never going to implement the things you want” just so we are able to make an informed decision and move on.
Hi @KidVector, we recognize your desire for a definitive update. While we strive to maintain transparency and align with user suggestions, the complexities of software development can make it difficult to provide timelines or assurances. Our approach needs to be adaptable to ensure feature feasibility and to accommodate evolving technologies. We are keenly aware of user demand for syncing across devices and platforms and are considering potential solutions. I hope that helps!
Library as a Service is what I hope for. And I would gladly pay extra for this.
It would give us the x-device sync of our playlists and preparation work.
Managing tags, grouping, colors, etc. from any device and have it available on the rest of them.
I would enjoy ability to migrate playlists from Spotify playlists (and the other platforms) as djay/Tidal/Apple Music playlists. I’m currently paying Sndiiz, and it’s OK, but if Algoriddim has it as an additional paid feature/tier to a cloud library, my choice would be to pay Algoriddim to do it for me.
Hosting tracks & library on Cloud Sources will be very useful - Apple’s iCloud as track source would make a lot of sense IMO. I’m not sure if it’s worth working with Dropbox/Google Drive/One Drive/WebDAV , as the iOS offline capability is somewhat fragile and incomplete for these platforms. It’s great for iCloud though, and most of us use djay on Apple devices anyway.
import & export from Traktor/Serato/VirtualDjay/Rekordbox/Engine would be very attractive for many people I can imagine many people getting onboard for just the cloud library Migration, Syncing & Management if done properly. Especially if we can migrate from/to Spotify/TIDAL/Apple playlists. AND if we can match Cloud sources to local files, that’d be a killer feature. Many Pros will start using the Cloud Library Service if it can sync between the Pro apps libraries. And this will most likely bring extra subscribers to djay too.
Please, consider the Cloud Library, request! It can also become quite profitable, IMO.
I think if there was a djay pro cloud feature then obviously a higher charge wouid be realistic as you would need to outsource the servers or have them yourself. I wouldn’t want to see the price dramatically higher either. The cloud could have a tier system basic, intermediate, professional which wouid reflect the subscription.
If we have recursive imports of folders, we can do just fine with propagating our libraries across devices with iCloud. Until then, we are stuck with iTunes doing it, and it unfortunetely causes signficant issues with my library. Not happy at all, to be honest …
