Device model : MacBook M1Pro 14" 2020
Version of operating system : Ventura13.7.8
Version of djay : 5.5.2
Hardware/controllers used : (not relevant in this case) Denon Prime Go
Hardware firmware version : 4.3.4
A) SUMMARY OF ISSUE:
When inserting a usb stick with tracks previously added to DJay playlists, after DJay Pro has started, the tracks remain grey.
Using the option to relink the files says no files missing, but they still remain grey.
Of course stopping and starting DJay Pro solves the issue. But if you instert a USB/Thumbdriver after DJay has start it doesn’t refresh.
After a while it does start to recognise some tracks, but not in the queue for example. But I haven’t found a way to force it “rescan” the usb drive.
This is an issue when already doing a gig and inserting another thumbdrive with “extra/other” tracks.
Could there be a little refresh icon somewhere so DJay re-scans the USB’s just inserted. (As I suppose it does when the app starts)
B) DETAILED STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Insert USB drive with songs.
Fire Up DJay Pro AI
Add songs to collection from usb drive and add to a playlist.
Stop DJay Pro.
Remove the drive.
Start DJay Pro.
Insert the drive
Select the playlist made above. Tracks remain grey.
C) EXPECTED RESULTS:
Even if DJay is already open and inserting the drive it would recognise the tracks are now there.
Or a “refresh” icon/button somewhere to rescan present usb drives.
D) ACTUAL RESULTS:
Track remain grey even after running Relocate Missing Tracks.
Indeed, I shared a short recording in this comment (6) to @Slak_Jaw but you couldn’t reproduce it in your M3 MBAir iirc. Sounds like it’s not just limited to intel as i thought.
It really would be nice to swap drives between dj’s without stopping music and restarting djay
If I go the USB stick and re-add to my collection then it does recognise them, but when you have a lot of tracks on the stick and the song is somewhere in a folder and you don’t want to add the whole usb stick to your collection it’s time consuming to find where it was.
Also because there is no info anywhere of where the track was located (some DJ apps show the path, so at least you know where the track was supposed to be…)
The Refresh Library does not work in this case, they remain greyed out. That would be the most logical place for it to work. (to rescan if any USB’s have been added)
It’s the same bug we’re trying to push.
Doesn’t even require “reproducing” since it’s that ubiquitous.
Glad to be proven wrong with a video
Totally understood!
I reported this bug a while aback.
My frustration is perhaps to the claim that the issue is irreproducible If that be the case, Can they share a video of how theirs act?
Yes, you reported this quite a while ago, but only shared the video 2 weeks ago. Since we thought this might be an Intel-based Mac issue, the team has been trying to acquire and test on that hardware.
I haven’t heard back from engineering either way yet. All I know is that I could not reproduce it on my M series setup. When I have more news I will share it here.
Also happens on iPad. Insert a USB with track, fire up DJay, put one track of the usb into the queue. Stop DJay (swipe up to really stop it). Remove USB stick.
Fire up DJay open queue, song greyed as expected, then insert USB, but song remains greyed out.
Seems DJay only “reads” the USB stick when starting up the first time, but doesn’t respond to the system event that a device is (re)-attached, well USB drives at least.
