Traktor’s Beatmasher effect or simmilar alternative. Beatmasher is a beat-repeat/stutter effect, that allow you to create drum rolls for energetic transitions. It’s like having rmx-1000 with snare rolls except these rolls are with snare samples of the songs you already played, or you will play. The biggest advantage of this effect solution over regular roll effects in any other software is that the captured loop in beatmasher remains in memory independently of the deck’s loaded track. So the captured loop stays in the fx slot and it repeats it self (synced to other tracks playing), while the volume of the slot is controlled via dry/wet of the slot. This effect allows you to sound like you are using 3 or 4 decks.
If you need a demonstration video, i can upload it. -
Playlist shortcuts. Knowing many open format djs that also use Djay Pro, preparing for new gig could be a bit easier if you introduce playlist shortcuts perhaps in simmilar fashion like Traktor, making them accessible via F1-F12 buttons and placing them just under the main transport window, or as a tab in side panel on the right.
Hi @ytmusic, for the Beatmasher FX, I recommend you check out the Sugar Bytes Juggle and Slice sections. I personally like to use the Bass Gun and Snare Gun FX, but there are a lot of options to choose from
For your second suggestion, there is an existing topic that you can upvote:
If you go thrugh the request #1 you will see the slight difference.
Traktor’s Beatmasher keeps the captured loop in its memory, even if you stop the currently playing deck, which in that case allows you to capture just a drum loop and create rolls, or just to capture a part of a vocal. Toggle button is capture on/off, and pot is capture lenght
4/1, 2/1, 1/1, 3/8, 1/2, 1/4, 3/16, 1/16, 1/32.
This allows you to capture 4/1 loop and keep it playing while you load another track into a deck. In order new song on the same deck to be heard, user uses dry/wet knob to let more “dry” signal which is song deck. “wet” signal is ofcourse - fx signal.
Djay pro looper on the other hand stops playing loop the moment the used stopped the deck.
Thanks for clarifying and providing additional details @ytmusic. I will pass this onto our dev team for consideration. In the meantime, please use the blue Vote button so we can gauge user demand for this suggestion. Thanks!
FYI there’s a macOS/Windows/Linux plugin called Glitch2 which has recently become a free download in loving memory of the creator, Kieran Foster.
Thanks for sharing @PKtheDJ
@Slak_Jaw do you know that many people don’t know about the dedicated Looper function of djay?
@ytmusic Check this out - am doing this live - sound goes directly to master output (unfortunately) - but it’s really fun in a live mix if you took away the drums/bass /instruments of a track on a deck
Looper copies the bpm of the playing track at the time
@Slak_Jaw is there an option to set looper sound to just one deck?
34 votes already! Please @ytmusic give us a 35th vote here
Here is a short demonstration of beatmasher. Please pay attention to the left deck. Beatmasher gets applied on the left deck, loop is captured, and it is being used as drum roll (my bad timing did not capture full snare). While loop being captured, i can load different song in the same deck, and play it in the background. In this case dry/wet plays the role of the volume crossfader between captured loop (full wet), and deck with a new song (full dry). You can monitor everything in the upper left corner.
Not with an Internal Mixer Mode device. If you’re using an External Mixer Mode device I’m pretty sure you can route the Looper to a specific mixer channel.
Thanks for the video @ytmusic. I’m familiar with the Beatmasher - I was a Traktor user from 2009 until around 2017.
Hey, great to know that.
I think Traktor was developing tools for non-turntablists so they (us, everyone) can feel as they can also perform live on a certain level simmilar to scratch dj’s / turntablists (turntable being mentioned as an instrument all the time).
So they had something like beatmasher, remix decks (customizable #caugh, caugh), sampler deck (per deck or master), and fx drum machine.
Im curious to know if Djay will take any of these ideas and make it better.
Our talented dev team is constantly innovating. We will just have to wait and see what’s in store for the next major release.
