Which controller has active screens with djay?

Hi All,

I am looking to get some DJ gear, something more modern as I still have some old CDJ-800’s.

I am testing this DjPro software thing and I like it very much, yet finding a proper controller to use is a challenge I find. Especially if you like controllers that offer Wave view and other options like playlist control etc.

As I am able to gather thus far, there is NOT ONE controller that offers a graphical view of what DjPro offers in the software. I mean wave form display, cue point display, etc. All the standard things actually.

The only option I was able to find ( unconfirmed as of yet ) is the CDJ-3000 which is a seriously expensive unit, which kinda negates the whole idea behind affordable DJ software and gear.

So, if the community could chime in if they know of any Dj controller ( other then the CDJ-3000 ) that has active displays, please chime in and share your experiences.

Pictures of how it looks on your controller with graphics ( if any) would be awesome !!!

Cheers

Peter

I’m not aware of anything. I think generally Algoriddim just don’t bother to (or don’t know how to) implement screens. Atomix on the other hand usually offer excellent support for screens with VirtualDJ.

The Pioneer units get their graphics internally from the firmware, so in theory should easier to support, as there’s no need to send skin info from the software.

Just one of those things I suppose (compromise/corners cut) when using djay Pro rather than VDJ, Serato, Rekordbox or Traktor. :man_shrugging:

The Mixon 8 has working jog wheel screens (if you are referring to those?) with Djay Pro…

Hey turbopussy,

yes that’s exactly the type of info I am looking for . Could you share pics perhaps, if it’s not too much to ask

for me it was not “the best Djay Pro controller”. Send it back and bought a FLX10 instead (which has no jog wheel screens supported so far, but we hope its just a matter of time)

Hey PK,

Well seeing the amount of work that the dev team have put into the software, I doubt that they wouldn’t " bother to “. As I read in some other posts they are reliant on the willing ness of the producer of the hardware to share info on their " firmware " and how to address that firmware with what software commands. I have done some programming myself in the past and even though Algo may be able to detect the classes needed for them to address the screens, they just cannot just " hack” into those screens and they probably need to license the use of the onboard software in the controllers.

That said, I agree with them that it would be nice if some manufacturers would " open " their systems a bit more.

On the other hand, it may prove a wise decision if Algo would develop their own hardware, allowing them to implicate any and all features their software offers and making their product unique, but that’s a whole other ballgame I think

…as are all the other DJ software companies, who tend to support screens without issue.

These all have a graphical view? Some of those are just dot matrix/text displays or jog wheels.

In addition I think most people would class only three of those as controllers (all in one mixer and decks) - the two Ranes and the Reloop. The others are players.

@Slak_Jaw ,

Thank you for the list of DJ Players.
I have gone through all of them on the Pioneer website.

The only ones that have some form of active graphical display which shows a wave form or a scrolling wave are these ;

  1. Pioneer CDJ-2000 Nexus
  2. Pioneer CDJ-2000 NXS2
  3. Pioneer CDJ-3000
  4. Pioneer XDJ-700
  5. Pioneer XDJ-1000

( Safe to say all of these are often way beyond a simple dj’s financing skills )

These only have a center display ( jogwheel display)
6. Reloop Mixon 8 Pro
7. RANE Four
8. RANE Performer

So, again, thanks for the list, but the ones that are offering something useful are quite expensive, even used.

You’re welcome @DjPete. Happy to help. Our dev team is constantly working to expand screen support, but please note that the hardware manufacturer needs to unlock access to their screens before we can add support for them in djay. We have reached out to the manufacturers requesting this, but it will help to expedite the process if djay users could also contact the manufacturers and express their interest in having screens unlocked for Algoriddim djay. Every voice helps. Thanks for your support!

Following your remark, this what I just send to PioneerDJ:

Dear PioneerDJ team:
When using Algoriddim DjayPro software and DDJ FLX10 hardware the jog wheel screens of the controller are not working. Algoriddim claims that this is due to PioneerDJ refusing to open access to the jog wheel functionality for Algoriddim.
If this is true, could you please consider to allow Algoriddim access to the jog wheel screen section of your hardware please?
This would be very helpful and a lot of DjayPro users are waiting for this.
Further, I suppose PioneerDJ could win numerous new clients that are DjayPro users and/or Apple fans but are currently hesitating to buy DJ hardware that is only partly integrated with the software.
Thanks a lot for taking this request into consideration.

Hi i use reloop and back up with wego4 pioneer re maped the living daylights out of them and yes can see all of above wave form, cue, bmp, track lenght etc etc (maped back to both decks mirror keys where i can) and for my sins android only fan so use a lenovo yogi which acts as a lap top and touch screen or mouse or key board or deck controll within djpro, may not be eveyones chouce but nice to have more than one option - back up and handy eg taking a request and want to quickky drop in say a loop while distracted …

Hey Sam,

I just made a deal on a reload Mixon 4, to get it used. Seems like almost exactly what I was looking for

Im no expert but really rate the reloop brand and its compatability yeh some great controllers out there but licence fee - only work with one software put he off and whilst a bit of a brain drain once remap understood especially with shift key opens up a boat load of extra features at your finger tips and as i say with djpro certainly coveres most dj events in my humble.
