Software is fun but is pretty much just for fun. Pick up a cheap iPad and get pretty much the same from Djay Pro for iPad. If you DJ professionally stick with the Pro DJ apps specifically Virtual DJ or Traktor. I personally prefer Serato, Traktor & Rekordbox but again when it comes to PC things are just not where they need to be. Traktor & VDJ seem to have no issues with PC. This is NOT just a bad personal experience I had but is generally how it is for all. Check out each respective forum for details. I think Algoriddim needs to tighten things up in their home field (mac) and specifically the support and communication end of things needs HUGE work but truth be told they are not ready to support PC.
I understand your angle. I do feel there is more to it than just colors though lol. I use serato as my main platform and there is really no comparison between sdj on Mac and sdj on win. Furthermore the amount of apps that are Mac only (in regard to music) are staggering. From rekord buddy 2 (which I just got yesterday) to djay pro to actual elements of serato video itself. Same applies to iOS where the dj options for android are poor due to audio latency issues.
I don’t wanna come across as I hate windows or android either. I happen to use Windows for just about everything in my life BUT djing and music production. Literally everything but!! When it comes to my craft and work though I need nothing but perfection and no worries day in and day out. Don’t get me wrong Mac still has some issues but far less than win in regard to my music software. It just works.
I would say 75% is high as well but it is certainly a risk. Serato has NOT eradicated pirating of its software. If it were not for the fact if it both being illegal and the fact that I frown on it I would post a link. The genius of Serato is though to take FULL advantage of any version you MUST have the hardware as well. This is why Traktor, VDJ, etc. are pirated so often. You don’t need anything more than a computer to be a “DJ” with Traktor, VDJ, Djay Pro etc.
I am hoping you mean Serato DJ 1.5 as there is no such thing as Serato 5. Furthermore there has been a login requirement since day one for Serato DJ. This is the only way to activate your expansions. Again I won’t go into the hows and such but trust it is till possible. Not always up to the newest releases (as with ANY other pirated software) but still very possible. I do personally guarantee you won’t find anything if you are looking for Serato 5 though LOL.
I will add that you must sign in to activate/deactivate your expansions initially but TRUST you do NOT have to be connected to the internet EVER again after that activation to use Serato DJ or its expansions etc.
Anyways this is far from the point and I do not condone in any way. These guys are hard at work and do NOT deserve people stealing their works. As I said though this does not do you much good as there is no way to use without the proper hardware anyways. This is one reason I swear by them. If Rekordbox DJ’s cloning of SDJ is not enough to prove they are doing something right what is?
Agreed. Out of curiosity what is it about djay pro that you are looking to get? The only (and I do mean okay) reason I use djay pro is for the Spotify integration but I have since been using pacemaker and another app that has not yet been released which both offer full Spotify integration. Not as feature full as djay 2 or djay pro but again if I am doing actual sets I would not (I its current condition) trust djay pro not would I use pacemaker etc. that would be serato dj and if not traktor or rekordbox dj.
I hear ya. Unfortunately the other two apps I use that have Spotify integration are apple only as well so I suppose hoping and asking are your best options after all.
Would be a dream come true and I know they are open to the idea. Only thing needed is a show of support in the feature request area.
Are you using Serato with Windows?
I am assuming you are using Djay 2 and not Djay Pro. There is no midi learn function in the mobile version (Djay2) and the “Numark 3” (could have been more specific btw Mixtrack III, Mixtrack Pro III, NS7III, etc.) is not natively supported so not much luck here.
Scan yes. Will even show up as one found. Actually using it or mapping it (if not natively supported) is a different story though.
Sounds like you figured out how to use djay 2. Djay pro is what is being discussed here.
Keep in mind Djay Pro offers midi mapping and support for basically ANY device out there while Djay 2 (as requested above) supports like 5 devices none of which are really any good with the exception of maybe the Reloop or Pio devices.
This is just ONE limitation but trust that Djay 2’s holdbacks would be greatly emphasized when placed next to a proper instance of Djay Pro on Mac.
Not for nothing though if you plan to get big into DJing or music production you would be doing yourself a great favor by considering Mac.
It is not just here that the Mac is favored:
Serato Pyro
Serato Remote
Serato Video (certain aspects as Quartz and Syphon etc.)
Mix Emergency
Remixlive (Mixvibes)
Tonetable
Djay Pro
Rekord Buddy
Traktor DJ https://www.native-instruments.com/en…
Maschine (for iOS) https://www.native-instruments.com/en…
TouchOSC http://hexler.net/software/touchosc
Ableton (Link) https://www.ableton.com/en/link/
… these are just some Pro DJ apps you will run into depending on how deep you get into this. While I absolutely LOVE Windows and use it for everything else in my life (including as I type this very moment) I understand and recognize the need to utilize Mac for work. Even apps that “support” windows won’t always run as well (as any Serato user) due to developing on Mac and porting to Windows and such.
By no means am I telling anyone what to do nor do I expect anyone to just switch everything they know. Simply making a suggestion. The thing is that list was just off the top of my head which is why I did not provide links for all. There is actually a crap load more. I don’t know of any for Windows that can not be used on Mac… unless anyone here knows of any. That would be just as welcomed.
ANYWAYS yeah not saying stop fighting for this or anything… just making a note of my personal experiences and the benefits of using both platforms.
They are not. Hoping they stay away from this too. Just my opinion. They are adding some touch feature to the keyboard supposedly but if we are lucky the necessity for touching will stay where it is. Keep in mind this is what the hardware is for. Don’t even want to use the touch features on my CDJ-2000NXS2’s as they do not match up to actual input devices (knobs, platters, faders etc.)
It will come out of Beta as soon as it is deemed stable and performs as intended. Perhaps getting involved in the Beta is the best way to ensure it will work with your setup?
Yes please keep it Windows 10 only. It is bad enough valuable resources will be directed away from the core users as it is…
This is a byproduct of progress. It is hard to move forward while living in the past. Where does one draw the line? Windows 95? XP?.. probably best to stick to current OS. FYI They cut support for older Mac OS as well.
The beta being laggy is direct indication that it is NOT ready for final release. Rushing releases is the fastest way to guarantee failure. Perhaps being more proactive is the correct course of action here. TBH I don’t think moving toward Windows was the correct move for Algoriddim due to the vast configurations of hardware and software and I believe they have chewed off more than they can swallow. It is nothing like supporting Mac OS or iOS. In the end as long as support for the core users (Mac & iOS) is not affected then by all means but I just hope they know what they are getting into here.
I am curious as to how the beta is going as a whole. I downloaded the Win version but quickly realized I would never use my Windows machines to DJ so unfortunately it woud not be time well spent for myself although I DO wish them all the best:)
LOL zero understanding of the English language yet the opportunity (even if it was the wrong opportunity) to use the word “fuck” was not missed… classy
It is normal for developers to support only current os versions coinciding with software release. What is so special is the fact it is current. Simple as that. I am sure it wouldn’t be all that difficult to support older versions but the problem is you say "why not just support directly prior to 1511. Then the next person is able to say why not just one more and so on. There HAS to be a cutoff and placing said cutoff at current builds is the best universal solution. The typical reason a developer would chose the current build it it typically ensures the hardware running said os and sw is current and capable as well.
