I fully know this is possible but was mostly stressing the part that this is against the law.
“Making unauthorized copies of copyrighted music recordings is against the law and may subject you to civil and criminal liability. A civil lawsuit could hold you responsible for thousands of dollars in damages. Criminal charges may leave you with a felony record, accompanied by up to five years of jail time and fines up to $250,000. You may find this surprising. After all, compact discs may be easily be copied multiple times with inexpensive CD-R burning technology. Further, when you’re on the Internet, digital information can seem to be as free as air. U.S. copyright law does in fact provide full protection of sound recordings, whether they exist in the form of physical CD’s or digital files. Regardless of the format at issue, the same basic principle applies: music sound recordings may not be copied or distributed without the permission of the owner.”
Direct from RIAA website which is also the website you are supposed to use to report any piracy http://www.riaa.com/report-piracy/ (real world or online) at which time the RIAA is able and authorized to do an IP search and track any given users history for traces of P2P and other sources of illegal music.
Publicly saying you could care less about Spotify or Djay’s licensing agreements and your total disregard for the law is what has be baffled. These laws are set in pace to make sure any and all artists receive the compensation they are entitled to and I am not sure where paying for “some” of the tracks fits into this… that’s all. Not trying to insult you.
“I got a direct copy from algoriddim not the App Store. Not sure why that would make a difference.”
Actually the difference is if you had purchased from the app store you could use Djay Pro on as many computers as you want at any given time. I had to go this route as I run four MacBook Pro’s. In purchasing direct you are actually limited to one computer per license and MUST deactivate any activated license prior to activating on an alternate computer.
As seen here http://help.algoriddim.com/customer/e…
I was probably referring to recording while using Spotify or PL being that would be a prime example of “Making unauthorized copies of copyrighted music recordings”… NO?
Charging to play is not ruining the industry. UNDER charging is. You charge for a gig what I charge for an hour. THAT is what is ruining the industry. As you can see by the differences in our gear I simply would not be able to justify having the gear I do if I charged $150 a gig. As a NYS union carpenter I make almost $50/hr. at my day job. I am not bragging I am just saying know what you are worth… unless that is what you are worth? I can see by your pictures your expenses are not that high but still it is how this affects other DJ’s that is the problem IMO.
May I ask how you afford to live by charging $150 a gig? I will be flat out honest with you that the lowest I ever charged was $200 and that is when I was doing sweet 16’s for my friends 17 years ago…
And once again I apologize if this comes across as insulting but understand it is kind of a touchy subject and there is no real way to express or communicate any points without attacking the points directly.
Who mentioned anything about legalities there? I was simply relaying exactly what is said on that page? WTF just happened there?
Secondly who said my software is not working?
As far as proving I own the gear I am going to the basement right now and creating something you may like …

Hope that is proof enough… On the bright side at least you can say you have your name on some gear of this caliber for once!!! LOL
I threw in the S8 and Ableton Push too Lemme know if you wanna see the rotary Urei or Rane or maybe the Rane 64 or maybe … you get the point!!
Yeah its my friends stuff and he is nice enough to let me keep it ALL at MY house at my disposal to put little signs with your name on it and today’s date just in case it came up…
Secondly I never claimed to use Djay professionally. I use it as a toy as it is kind of the same level as the stuff you own… Numark and all. I have no quarrels with you being a hobbyist. That is fine IMO but I do have problems with people thinking they are above the rules and attempts to bring down everyone around them following the rules and trying to keep their honor and integrity intact.
If everyone thought like this none of these services would/could exist. This is by no means thinking outside the box. This is thinking outside the realms of the law and/or a user agreement sent forth by any given entity and its users. I’m not neigh (its Nay BTW unless you are horse) saying to progress I am nay saying to disregarding rules set forth to make sure other artists get the compensation they are due. Trust you are by no means a noble or progressive person by claiming to be above the laws or rules.
Also trust when I say I am by no means slow to evolve I just make sure what I do does fall within the law. Being a larger company with MUCH ore invested I have much more to lose. I do not have the luxury of treating this like a weekend trip with my friends from high school.
I find it sad that you literally think disregarding rules is inventive or clever.
If you want to do something and a law or rule says you can’t… simply doing it anyway is not exactly something I would be proud of. Anyone can do whatever they want… until they can’t.
I could care less about using streaming while DJing so using the “silly PEOPLE” term is a reach at best. As a matter of fact I have been utilizing streaming myself with DJ software you will be able to use yourself in the near future. The difference is I keep it legal. The services I use DO allow commercial use and DO allow offline (cache) support. One will be available to the public late summer this year and the other is yet to be announced. Trust when I say none of these options allow room for being stuck in the past but TRUST when I say it is my regard for policy and terms that allows me the freedom and honor of being invited to partake in these ventures.
Keep in mind it is NOT streaming I am against. It is supporting activity that is not allowed that I am against. You wanna talk weekends and what I do with my life … anything goes but NOT when it comes to my work or craft. Again way too much to lose.
http://www.bmi.com/licensing/… just as an example
It is the venues responsibility to get any/all licenses to display any copyrighted material. And a wedding falls under private event so licensing does NOT apply. Raves is certainly does. I have NO idea how you don’t know this stuff TBH.
So yes you have said something wrong again and please do NOT assume all DJ’s are doing the same thing as yourself. Some DO make sure any/all terms are being followed because some have way to much to lose. It takes one visit by the wrong person to change your life forever. I could lose my house, cars, everything which is why I do NOT take this lightly. I mean no insult but it seems clear that you are not in the position to be caring about this yet which I can only assume you will one day.
As an artist I pride myself and my work as well as value the works of others which is the ONLY reason I agree with all this licensing stuff. As an “artist” yourself I would think you would care more about it yourself. Again maybe not yet but when you do own your own home and have assets you could lose at a moments notice rules become a lot easier to follow.
Let us not pretend for a second I don’t agree with what you ultimately want to do. I think streaming is indeed part of our future. I personally know its benefits already and utilize them myself. I just happen to feel that as long as there IS a legal option to do so why chose the path riddled with risk and disregard? Does any of this make any sense to you? I will also add the the legal option also works with better DJ software, has a larger library and DOES support offline (cache) capabilities so I feel I would be a fool to choose anything but this path.
PS. Streaming is relatively new and has NOT been proven effective overall as a business model although many have their speculations. Furthermore Spotify is ABSOLUTELY not the best option to prove this case. If you remember the reason Taylor Swift chooses not to have her music on Spotify yet does work with Apple Music, Deezer, etc. as she argues Spotify does not pay what she believes to be fair royalties. In other words Artists are losing money (big picture) to services like Spotify. I happen to agree with you that Streamng services WILL be a great way to regulate and compensate but according to her management it simply is not there… yet. This is just a side story and by no means has anything to do with the legalities or terms of anything.
The only potential he has and has always had this software is to make the most of Apple’s Core Audio … its integration with the operating system is impressive but everything stops there … a nice program to gain experience or to use at home for parties or as a player to your playlists ( Automix mode is inferior ) the sound is frightening even with the integrated sound card … remains , however , a SW Entry Level … quality but Entry Level !
At present not use it even more ’ as a simple player after repeated crashes suffered.
After months without visiting the site thought to find more news about a software update . From how I see everything and ’ remained as before . Because’ ?
Yes, there is so many small bugs and lack of functionality that for now make this software usable only on small events. But I still hope that after releasing DJay Pro for iPad they go back working hard on the Mac version and make us all happy.
Guys, I think that we should use this forum to help each other. There are different people with different needs so no need to criticise anybody. Let’s just relax.
I experience the same as djmagicmoments and Djay Pro crashes frequently for me as well. But I hope that Algoriddim will get all those crash reports and finally make a stable version.
Also I agree with djmagicmoments on playing Spotify music. I learned to have backup of everything when it comes to DJing. Depending solely on Internet connection at the venue sounds like a recipe for disaster. But having it as something extra to get all requests could be cool.
Regarding superiority of having music from iTunes versus other sources it’s still a bit of a grey area. Like all other services iTunes allows only for private use just like Spotify and I’m not talking about AppleMusic. Even Serato’s BeatPort allows for private use only. All other professional DJ services I investigated have this small print. It looks like they were forced by music industry to add that. Basically they all mislead people but are welcome to take our money.
Going back to Djay Pro, I did software development in the past and I know how difficult it is to fix bugs in multithreaded applications like this. They just need tons of crash reports from us. So all we can do for now is to use it until its fixed. Also even programs like Serato crash. It happened to me recently and to my friend as well.
So if Algoriddim will do nothing with it I’ll look for other software but I’ll give it another 6-9 months.
It’s all getting very serious. To throw my 2 pence in Iv just purchased a Beatpad 2 and Iv tried it with djay pro on my MacBook Pro and I pad 4 and all is well with no crackles or glitches.
@ djmagicmoments, So what is your description of a Pro DJ? I use Spotify, Amazon music & any other music source I can find & I made 100k last year??? I thought professional means getting paid, with customer satisfaction. Maybe I’m wrong??? Lololololol!
As with any music service you can build your play list save it & not stream from anyone of them. Every digital DJ does this unless he crating. If you want to go by the letter of the law, you have to submit your play list to ASCAP, BMI, SESAC etc, for authorization . You cant change your playlist & you have to pay each time you play a song. you never own a piece of music, whether you buy it or not. The reason the music industry doesnt bust Dj’s in the the ass is because it cheap advertising. Take it from a record label exec, which I was for 20+ years
By the way I have all of that, big drawers. How about you stop shooting off of your mouth & try & be helpful. No one is here to hear that bull you are talking. This is a forum & you should be helping & expanding your small ass mind instead bringing the clouds!
technically yes, if it’s not in your house, car or personal listening device. But the sweet thing is they expect that , it’s cheap advertising. Now bands are more apt to get spanked than Dj’s. Ever wondered why CDR-A’s cost more than CDR’s? You are paying music royalties. The music industry is very interesting. we pay in all kind of ways that you would never imagine.
