Your question:

Hi, apologies back again with no doubt a basic question

So, I’m branching out into Midi controllers after @Slak_Jaw kindly helped me get my iPad to let me connect multiple controllers

I plugged in the AKAI LPD8 and it was recognised instantly by Djay Pro on my iPad and I can map all 8 buttons and 8 knobs no problem
I’ve not purchased the Mini Mk2, see below

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BPC32YZ1?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

This gives me way more mapable buttons for the looper and sampler mainly, that was my plan
However I’ve never used Ableton Link before, and the Mini Mk2 states I need to download Ableton Lite to my device but this isn’t available on the iPad. I can through my PC but didn’t want to configure the control to the PC when ideally I want to connect it to my iPad
I believe I need a 3rd party App, I did install the LK app yet this doesn’t find my controller for some reason yet when turning on the Ableton switch in my Djay Pro settings I can then map the controller so mission accomplished yet the controller is still technically “off” as no lights are on which makes it super difficult to configure

Again, I’m sure I’m doing something wrong but if somebody could be kind enough to give me a steer on how to set this up it would be a great help. I’ve scoured the forum and youtube tonight with not much success

Thanks in advance

APC Mini Mk2 works with iPad with powered hub, but you need to map it all. I also only got the orange led to work and quite dim, so unless there is a trick to get the other colors to work and turn up the brightness I would say look for other options.

Hi, I use the APC Mini MK2 with my Macbook pro M4 and iPad Pro M4 when I play with the Reloop Mixtour Pro. When I use the Rane four, I usually don’t use it because of space.

The top 6 x 8 pads are the looper. The color is white and if I press it it turns bright red.

The seventh row with the blue and green color is for the beatgrid. The first 4 for the left channel and the next 4 for the right.

The eighth row with the red and yellow color is for the beatjump. The first 4 for the left channel and the next 4 for the right.

The seventh and eighth rows with the Shift button are the sampler.

The 8 small buttons with the red color above the faders are for mute stems. The first 4 for the left channel and the next 4 for the right.

The 8 faders are for the volume of the stems. The first 4 for the left channel and the next 4 for the right.

The 8 faders with the Shift button are the looper volume channels.

The ninth fader is the volume of the looper.

The green vertical buttons from bottom to top are for:

Start - Stop the looper. (the play button)
The library extension (works on mac)
The next two are empty
Start - Stop quantization
Open - Close the sample panel (works on mac)
Open - Close the looper panel (works on mac)

The only problem I have is that every time I open the program I have to change the custom midi mapping and the built-in and back to my custom midi mapping for it to work properly.

If you like my map, I can upload it later, when I get home from work.

Hi @Papagp that’s really helpful, any idea why I’m getting no lighting at all on mine though currently? I’m only doing through the iPad do you enable Ableton link and if so do you have an Ableton compatible app running in the background to get the set up the same as yours?

If I could replicate your set up that would work perfectly for me

I’ve also spotted the below controller and I wondered if this may work better? Only issue is no sliders

I should have also asked the wider community for their suggestions for a good midi controller, mapable for DjayPro via an iPad, open to all suggestions, ideally want to try and get at least 6 x 6 with sliders to map the looper/sampler

Thanks as always

Yooooo! This is brilliant. This map needs to be published for the culture! Lol.

Being able to whip up a beat and scratch on the fly with this midi and map is insane. Please share the map.

The next step would be for me to Amazon prime this unit and figure out how to install your map.

I posted asking if Traktor F1 plays nice with Djay Pro, but this is the route I want to go now.

Thanks

Hi, here is my midi mapping.

“The only problem I have is that every time I open the program I have to change the custom midi mapping and the built-in and back to the custom midi mapping for it to work properly.”

If you want me to do anything extra for your needs in this mapping, write it here.

On IOS just copy the file to the Djay folder

Thanks for the help and sharing your MIDI mapping @Papagp.

@Papagp just wanted to say a huge thank you for this, I’m using the iPad and downloaded your map and bar a few minor issues below it works a treat

This is exactly what I was looking for along with @Kevski72 so thanks again for your time in uploading this

I’ll post a quick video shortly, I’m not getting the light to turn red or stay on when pressing the pads, any idea why this could be or how I can attempt to map this somehow?

The button to open the sample and looper screen works but pressing it again doesn’t close it, it remains open, have to physically touch the ipad to close it?

I presume ASP mini mk2 notes in the Midi devices for all intense and purposes is redundant here? Everything you’ve mapped is to the mk2 control option?

Again, massive thanks, really is appreciated

Cuzer

@Papagp see attached video, hope you can offer any tips @Slak_Jaw ?

Cheers

Hi @Cuzer, about the lights on the pads, have you tried loading the custom midi mapping, then the built-in midi mapping, then the custom midi mapping again?

And yes, everything i’ve mapped is to the mk2 control

@Papagp Hi

The only mapping file I have on my iPad now is your one and I can’t seem to find an option ont he Djay Pro software via the iPad to restore to defeault

Coud you send me the defeault “out of the box” midi mapping file please for the APC Mini Mk2 (or give me a steer on how to reset it) and I’ll give the above a try

Thanks

Hi @Cuzer, LED output for each MIDI command is controlled is controlled using the MIDI Out section. Ensure this is enabled for each MIDI command. The Min Value controls the LED color when the button is not pressed. The Max Value controls the LED color when the button is pressed. These values are different for every controller so you will need to experiment. Also note that some values will have the same LED color but with different brightness. I hope that helps!

Hi, put this in the same Djay pro folder, load it into the program and then reload the MKII midi mapping

@Papagp @Slak_Jaw

Both, just wanted to say a massive thank you, as always on this forum, for your help

Downloading the original midi map and swapping them over, as you said Papagp absolutely did the trick, works now with the red back lights as you mentioned

Hopefully one final question. I now want to map some of the other buttons slightly differently
On the below picture what I’m trying to achieve @Slak_Jaw is pressing one of the midi buttons to activate the hot cue selection or the FX section, or the NM section etc, the buttons I’ve circled below (top image) is this possible?
I don’t want o play anything just open up the correct section in the software itself

I’ve seen previous threads where you’ve mentioned on your Mixon 8 you have a mapping document where you technically don’t touch the iPad/Mac
I’m trying to map some buttons so I can physically touch the iPad as little as possible, main buttons for me I physically press

are the ones circled below

As always really appreciate your help

Thanks

You’re welcome @Cuzer. These are not currently MIDI mappable, but this has been suggested in the community if you’d like to vote for this enhancement.

Thanks for confirming @Slak_Jaw

Definitely see an advantage in this so I’ll vote as you mentioned

Thanks again

Cuzer
