Headphone Cue Not Working with Crossfader FX

Yes with 5.2
Filter fx as I mentioned

With filter fx as I mentioned in the initial post. I agree it is logical, that is why I am making sure I did not miss an option to allow cue preview pre-fx. I typically “warm up” so to speak my scratch in transition before opening the fader however.

This a known issue from 5.0. Pre cue not possible with cross fader effects. Apparently it’s a complex issue.

Yes, working as intended, but … not as expected
Quick Workaround → map a button to toggle Crossfader FX On/Off.

Yep I have this mapped already as I use Crossfader fx quite a bit.

  • Device model *M3 Macbook air, or iPhone 14 Pro
  • Version of operating system macOS Sonoma 14.6:
  • Version of djay (e.g. 5.1.2): 5.2.4
  • Hardware/controllers used (e.g. Reloop Mixon 8 Pro): DDJ-FLX10, FLX4 or just software on its own

I’ve discovered this bug now that i’m using the Crossfader FX more. I’ve noticed that if CFX is enabled, having the CUE on the inactive deck doesn’t send the headphones any sound. In order to be able to hear the song in CUE, you have to slightly open the crossfader, but then the audience hears this too!

Fix would be to allow us to hear inactive deck if CUE is enabled for that channel on the mixer/controller without having to toggle on/off the CFX mode each time we want to cue a song.

Hi there, this has been identified from the start of 5.0. Very complex apparently. Engineers are aware of issue. Not sure when it will get resolved though

Interesting. Didn’t think it would be complex compared to some of the stuff Algoriddm is pulling off. Can’t it send unaltered audio to the inactive channel when CUE is enabled? Effectively disable CFX and send audio with fader down like it does normally? right now I have to turn CUE ON, then CFX off, and then proceed to find a mix-in pointso it’s ready to go then CFX back on then CUE OFF.

Hi @djchase, no pre-curing when using CFX is currently expected behaviour. The dev team is aware of this and is investigating options. However, as @Dysfunk_DJ indicated above, this is not a simple fix. I’ll report back here when I have more news. Thanks.

Thinking of moving from Serato as there are many features that I like, but came up against an issue when trying it out tonight…
I have enabled the crossfader fx as the mixing between songs whilst changing vocal and tempo is so good. This is where I encountered my issue though. When I cue the next song and I want to listen to it, I can’t hear anything as the ‘effect’ is applied and the crossfader is over the other side. The only way I can get to hear it is if I nudge the crossfader slightly, but then I only hear it with the effect applied, such as only drums or no melody/vocals etc. hope that makes sense!
What I want is to be able to hear the next track ‘normally’ and only way this works is to disable the crossfader fx.
I’m using a Denon Prime 4 by the way.
Hope someone can help!

It seems you’ve answered your own question. If you’ve engaged the effect and then completed the crossfade - turn off the effect. Engage it again when you next need it.

Hi @Stuart_Cox1, PKtheDJ is correct. If you want to pre-cue the other deck in your headphones, you need to turn CFX off between transitions. I hope that helps!

  • Version of djay (e.g. 5.1.2):

Summary of the issue:

djay Pro Cueing Bug: A Live Gig Discovery DJs Need to Know

Last night, while performing live using djay Pro AI on my MacBook Pro paired with the Pioneer DDJ-FLX10, I encountered a puzzling issue that could have easily derailed the set if not resolved quickly.

Despite everything being properly configured —
• Main Output: FLX10 ch 1-2
• Pre-Cueing: FLX10 ch 3-4
• Mixer Mode: Internal
• Headphones MIX knob: Fully set to CUE
• CUE buttons: Correctly selected on non-playing decks
• Channel faders: Not in THRU mode

…I discovered I was unable to preview non-playing tracks in my headphones. No matter what I cued, I kept hearing the master output. Everything looked right, but cueing simply refused to behave.

After double-checking every possible hardware and software setting, I eventually uncovered the culprit:

:white_check_mark: The issue was caused by djay Pro’s “Crossfader FX” being enabled.

When Crossfader FX is toggled ON, it overrides or disrupts the normal cue routing — effectively disabling pre-cue monitoring, even when all headphone and mixer settings are correct.

As soon as I disabled Crossfader FX, headphone cueing was restored instantly and worked as expected.

⸝

:police_car_light: Why This Matters:

This is clearly a software-side bug or unintended behavior, especially critical during live performances where cueing is essential. DJs may not immediately suspect a creative FX tool to interfere with such a core function.

⸝

:loudspeaker: My Suggestion:

Algoriddim should investigate and address this bug. Ideally, Crossfader FX should not affect headphone cue routing, or at least there should be a warning or setting to manage this dependency.

⸝

:studio_microphone: For Fellow DJs:

If you’re using Crossfader FX in djay Pro and find yourself unable to preview upcoming tracks — toggle it off immediately and test your cue. This might save your set.

Stay sharp… and keep the dancefloor lit.

Hi @Jacko, please use search before creating new topics. I have merged your new topic with this existing one. Thanks for the detailed information and work around. This is a known limitation with CFX and our engineering team is already aware of it. Thanks again!
