How transfer My Collection, including audio files to another device

Your question:

Hi

I generally use the software on my desktop PC running Windows, but have also just installed it on my laptop, also Windows
I’m using the same Pro log in, I also access the software through iOS

I’ve made a small playlist on my desktop PC and added a couple of cue points to tracks to see if they transfer to the other Windows device, via my laptop but despite being on the same platform (Windows) it doesn’t seem to transfer the cue points or playlist over to my laptop device, is this normal?

I get Windows to iOS maybe an issue but would think Windows to Windows on the same log in it would transfer to both devices?

Cheers

Cuzer

Hi @Cuzer, please use search before creating new topics. I’ve merged your with this existing topic. If you create your playlists in the My Collection source in djay, then you can manually copy the djay Media Library database from one Windows device to another. This database is located in %HOMEPATH%\Music\djay
https://help.algoriddim.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014912131-Where-does-djay-Pro-store-cue-points-and-other-metadata

Before doing this, I highly recommend that you make a backup of your Master djay Media Library database on an external drive or cloud service. Please note that the file name for this database on iOS and macOS is different than on Windows so this doesn’t really work from Windows to iOS.

Please also read above for more info:

I hope that helps!

A lot of reading here, thanks @Slak_Jaw

Sorry, I did search but came up with different results to the above

Does this transfer playlists and cue points or just playlists?

Thanks as always

Cuzer

You’re welcome @Cuzer. As outlined in the info above, the djay Media Library database contains playlists, history, queue, as well as all per-song metadata like cue points and loop regions.

@Slak_Jaw thats for the information about adding music to iOS. You mentioned that using Apple Music is the recommended way to move music from DJay Pro / Mac to iOS, however when we do that, even though the music is out own, we are unable to use stems / neural mix on music that is sync’d. For example I sync’d edits that I made of a top40 song and it won’t let me use stems since it’s being sync’d via Music app.

Hopefully the devs come up with a elegant way to do this, as the lack of file level access to iOS is preventing DJs from using this professionally. I’ve messaged LaidBack Luke about this, and he seems to doge the question about how exactly he syncs. Hopefully a better method is in the works!

Hi @djchase, it sounds like you are confusing Apple Music Streaming with iTunes/Music (see linked FAQ below for more details). If you are not able to use Neural Mix, then you are likely using the Apple Music Streaming version of your Local Music song by accident.

https://help.algoriddim.com/hc/en-us/articles/12806064939292-What-is-the-difference-between-Apple-Music-the-Music-app-iTunes-Match-iTunes-Store-and-iTunes

Thanks for the reply. Yes I understand the difference between Itunes Match and music. Here’s the issue/bug. If you subscribe to Music for streaming, and you copy songs into an Itunes playlist to sync with an iOS device, Apple Music will stream the song to the device and thus even if you wrote the song and have the original uploaded to iCloud, it won’t allow stems!

That said, what is the “best practices” in terms on putting personally owned mp3s into an iOS device for use with Djay? I’ve tried DJCU but there isn’t an elegant way to take a playlist (in Rekordbox/Serato/Itunes/Djay) on MAC and have that same playlist on an iOS device.

The only way that I can come up with is using MixMasterG (DJCU author)'s workaround syncing the DB, then the playlist, and then finally the raw files using iFunBox.

Hi there, for all mp3 files I personally
have this work flow.

  1. platinum notes
  2. mixed in key
  3. Apple Music
  4. sync using MacBook with cable to iOS device

This way all tracks are showing up on iOS device. May sure turn sync off on iOS devices.

In regards to stems if you have mp3 files you can use stems as Apple Music has Local Music with all your Apple Music playlists. You just need to download them on iOS device or they won’t play.

Got it. So syncing via a cable is the best way? I previously had cloud sync enabled so will go ahead and disable that and play with local files only. Thanks!!

I think so yes. Hard wine defo the way to go. All cues and loops using iCloud transfer over to.

Do you mike posting your full sequence after downloading songs to your computer. Would be helpful to many!

Hello everyone, I don’t know if it will help you, but my solution was to use DJUtility software to transfer a status of the playlists to the iPad and then maintain the two devices in parallel.

Can you explain the first 2 points on how you use them please?

  1. normalised the level using Platinum Notes?
  2. Mixed in Key, i believe DJay do their own analysis for Key and BPM? is it just for comment?

Hi there

  1. normalised the level using Platinum Notes? Yes platinum notes has settings all ready for dj in mind, which enables to replace original file with optimised file.
  2. Mixed in Key, i believe DJay do their own analysis for Key and BPM? is it just for comment? I have MIK Pro which has a playlist creator, which helps me I can use to find mixes that I wouldn’t have necessarily thought of before. Helps to create great playlists with cue points that will show in djay pro. In mixed in key settings tick cue point transfer for serato and hey presto cue points appear in djay pro.

Hope that helps. I’m not an expert at all with this stuff I’ve been trying to find a way to ensure I have same info on my Mac as my iOS devices. I’ve now found a system that works for me.

Thanks for the answer mate. Cheers!

The problem with transferring playlists from PC to iOS is that Djay Pro for iOS doesn’t have a feature - Relink.

I can manually transfer the database from computer to phone and Djay Pro on iOS sees all the playlists and other track information, but since the tracks are stored locally on the phone Djay Pro on iOS can’t find them and I can’t specify a new path for these files.

Djay Pro program urgently needs two functions: database synchronization and Relink for iOS app.

Makes perfect sense. This is why I’ve now started to use Apple Music to hard wire the playlist syncing between devices. At least this method means I have same on all devices.
