Right now today you can load 4 songs from Spotify onto a 4 decks and as long as you do not shutdown the app you can play these 4 songs even if there is no WiFi. So What if the same idea was applied in staging a playlist of songs from Spotify that stays around as long as Djay stays around. This way you would not be saving songs off line but rather just doing what you can you can already do just with more songs. The songs are not saved as when the app is shutdown the songs ‘evaporate.’
Is this something you can look into Lukas? It is not exactly what everyone wants but seems given the hand delt this might be within the rheum of possibility.
The rub us this is in violation of the Spotify agreement. I think most of us are saying we want to respect the idea that we cannot/should not download/rip the files. If we use the Spotify app we can have offline access for like a month or something. So users of Djay and Spotify merely want that same ability that they already have within Spotify native to DJay. Until Spotify creates tools in their Application Programming Interface (API) Developers like Algoriddim have no way of implementing this feature. There is much speculation about why so I won’t go into that here. But yes you could violate the user agreement of Spotify rip these tunes then play them then delete them. But that just isn’t practical in time or ethics. We would much prefer just have Djay act like Spotify does with respect to song playback.
There are other DJ software companies that have an agreement with Pulse Locker (song streaming service) Algoriddim has been mum whenever it is suggested they try to partner with them or whether the agreement with spotify is exclusive.
This will continue to be an issue until
A. Spotify decides to change their API (not sure they feel there is anything in it for them given that Users of DJay probably represent .00009% of their market.)
B. Algoriddim Partners with another streaming service that allows offline storage.
C. A creative solution like I suggested about loading the spotify playlist into DJay memory such that if the app gets terminated or the machine gets rebooted they are gone until Wifi can restore them. This is the only legal way I see of dealing with the current limitation of the spotify API.
Was not aware of that. Thank You. It would be cool if they could make an agreement with Apple Music or Some other streaming service.
Also depending on the venue you might be able to get a hardline ethernet cable. But most likely not. So Instead…
For me in addition to my MAC book I have DJay Pro on my phone. On that rare instance some request happens and I need to go fetch something from Spotify I can stream out from my phone to my mixer. The rest of the time I will be using my MAC.
For all the saber rattling It is a bit of a pain but it is something that can be worked around with a little preparation and effort.
Deejay Dave He is not saying run DJay on the iPhone. He is saying use the iPhone stand-alone (if supported) or in conjunction with the router to give yourself a hotspot for you MAC or iPad or whatever. That way you do have connectivity to the internet and you can use Spotify. I think the concern for some may still be that cell connectivity may be subject to problems just like WiFi. However this is another possible solution that may work for some. Thank you Omer Barias
Spotify has bigger problems now. Even with its limitations it might be our only hope. Pray they survive the latest legal action. http://news.abs-cbn.com/business/01/0…
SOLVED!!!
Hi people… Hi always wanted offline access of spotify.
Today I kind of solved it. It’s possible. But it requires some means…
I’ve always been having problems in the club where I play beacause the Internet connection of the club is crap. But then I solved it. And when I solved it, I also solved the “Offline question” of the Spotify.
Tonight, I’m Sharing the solution with you.
So… First things first… You need a phone with a 4G connection. For example (Samsung Galaxy S4 and above) or iPhone 5 and above. (maybe a 3G must be enough, but just by safety, get a 4G)
In my cell phone subscription, they given me 1GB of Internet per month.
If you have been using djay frequently as I do (I use everyday), you probably noticed that, when you play a song for the first time, it takes some time, but, if you play it again, it loads very fast. So, the answer is YES, the song DOES GET CACHED in djay when you play it for the first time.
Each time you load a song in djay, it need to verify that spotify session is active, so, you’ll need Internet anyway, is at this point where the cell phone comes to play.
If you’re a freelancer, or you have a crap internet where you usually play, you need Internet fast and stable.
Use your phone to do a “Portable hotspot”. The phone should use a data connection to get Internet.
Connect your pc to the phone wirelessly. Then, each time you load a song, if it has been previously played, it will just consume let’s say some KB’s checking if you spotify subscription is active. It WON’T DOWNLOAD THE SONG!
So, instead of creating a spotify offline playlist. Do this…
- Create the playlist you wish to play “offline”, choose the songs and add them. You dont need to choose the “Available offline” option of Spotify.
- At your home, with a good Internet connection, load each one of them to a djay deck. djay will CACHE the songs.
- At you gig place, use your phone as a hotspot to acess the songs.
DONE!
Worked perfectly for me. I’ve been playing for over 5 hours now. Not a single problem. And I consumed just a couple MB’s.
Agree with lashawndro. Misleading information. 49 EUR lost…
Please please please, this feature is needed!
If I could offline with Spotify /dj pro on occasion I would subscribe to Spotify - it could be a great solution also regarding the cost effective licensing of digital tracks for public performance as a DJ
Please do it. If this feature becomes available I will be very eager to buy your products.
Spotify Premium allows you to play your playlists offline. It’s perfect for plane rides, the subway, or just about anywhere you don’t have an Internet connection.
I’m also quite disappointed that the offline functionality of spotify is not supported.
I hope this app can soon make offline lists it would be amazing, as the other says here its usless in gigs if u do not have offline list. it would be amazing, please hurry
I would definitely be a permanent subscriber if this were implemented.
I DJ’d with this set up and I had trouble about an hour in , songs in the spotify playlist failed to start. I had to switch back to iTunes where I had the ‘bankers’ set of songs in reserve. The host then changed the wifi key, threw off everyone at the party except me, and we got things going again. So where as I’m not demanding off line as I hate playlists , I DJ and pick songs just a few tracks ahead. What I would like is a robust buffer, so I could ‘fetch’ songs and know they are complete and ready in advance. Perhaps upto 20 songs held in the device, which can delete if the app is closed etc. but like the others here, I can’t take the iPad and the beatbox out again with Spotify until I can garauntee that songs I load in the playlist will actually play.
The problem is that algriddim have not mentioned at any time up to the point of purchase that DJ img from spotify playlists can only be done whilst online. One assumes (we are not all technical wizards) that access to spotify would mean that the offline feature is mirrored within DJ and that that feature would allow us to DJ offline within DJ2. Seems to me this info has been deliberately omitted as I suspected. I’ve had to buy DJ app and spotify premium to confirm if this was the case and my worst suspicions are confirmed. Algoriddim - some honest up front descriptions such as “WARNING - DJ DOES NOT SUPPORT SPOTIFY PLAYLISTS IN OFFLINE MODE - DJ / SPOTIFY INTEGRATION REQUIRES A CONTINUOUS INTERNET CONNECTION” - yea that would of done it! Can’t believe the guy above who is developing the system is advising us to use iTunes instead!!
