So stoked. Ordered my system one based off this comment. QQ: for djing with iPad and System One, will we be able to connect djay with the solid state data drive you can connect on the bottom of the system one? Or will we still need to connect our external drives to the iPad itself?
Good question @yeahdef, I suspect djay will not be able to access the drive connected to the System One. I recommend you reach out to RANE support to confirm though.
That would be so awesome
As a Prime 2 user (with an SSD installed inside) I can say with almost certainty that Djay or other software wonāt be able to access that source, itāll be purely for Engine OS only. See it as exactly the same as how a flash drive works with CDJs, but with a faster connection to the OS.
Can you share, if the built in Engine Lighting by SoundSwitch is going to be supported when playing through djay?
Iām afraid that wonāt work either. Ultimately, the controller will be ādemotedā to a control unit for Djay.
This is not possible with the Prime Go or the Mixsteam Pro, for example, so I donāt think it will work with the System One. It would therefore be desirable to have direct native integration of Djay into the controller, but this would only be possible in direct cooperation with the manufacturer. But Algoriddim could inquire about this⦠![]()
I know, but it seems for the System ONE you donāt switch to computer mode, the djay software is just a source as I understand it. So maybe
Theyāve called it omnisourcing (bear in mind no other Engine device has ever been able to do this) and it looks like it is using some clever circuitry to allow seamless switching and mixing between the internal OS and external software.
From my experience, any drives connected to an Engine device are purely for use by the Engine device, i might be wrong but i have a feeling that will remain in place.
@RobustaDK @STU-C Now that you mention it⦠that would be great, letās see how it actually goes. ![]()
Hi again @RobustaDK, we donāt have any official information to share regarding this, however, I suspect this will not be supported.
Well thatās a bummer. Iām Just thinking out loud. So even if you have say serato on one deck as they have previewed and engine on the other deck, they were also showing engine lighting? I could be wrong but it did look like engine lighting was activated. If you can only operate engine lighting with engine dj os operating on System One that could get confusing and potentially ruin your show. Be interesting to hear the official line. Iām really hoping engine lighting will operate even if djay pro is running as a source.
Since this hardware is not currently publicly supported on djay, I think these recent questions are better suited to the RANE Support Teamā¦
This is an interesting discussion point, as the System one is indeed, the very first device that works in this seamless switching manner. So, surely it is the underlying Denon DJ os that is holding it all together.
Again, Iām just fascinated to see how this is going to work going forward. As the new engine dj platform on paper at least looks like a game changer. But maybe that is just marketing?
The old one is too, to be fair. Itās just that nobody bothered to take any notice of it until now.
My Prime 2 is coming up 5yrs old now, it was on Engine 1.6 when I bought it. Since then itās had well over 30 upgrades including touch FX, Fader echo, more effects, day mode, different view modes, sampler, stems, engine lighting integration, allowing the filter to be heard in the headphones, full library view (without playlists visible), track matching and many more.
Not a bad return on the £1200 I paid for it.
You can scroll down the āengine OSā tab here and see what has been added.
Not in the public release, no - but weāve probably all seen the video Mojaxx posted back in January of the System One running with djay Pro at NAMM.
When the older systems were put into controller mode, the internal computer was turned off, but this new connection method seems to keep EngineOS up and running, so it certainly could be possible to access internal storage and the DMX stuff.
What Iām leaning towards. This would be dope.
Thinking about it, if you were playing from the internal drive and using the DMX, it wouldnāt make much sense if it all got disabled when you played a track from the computer.
