Thanks for the feedback @gizmo
Serato has just gone live with System One support (and EngineOS 4.6 is available).
I just picked up a mixstream and am finally understanding what youâre talking about.
having to reboot to get into computer mode isnât a great user experience and takes time.
Well to be fair, they ARE standalone devices - designed for people who want to DJ without being tethered to a computer. The fact they can also act as controllers is a bonus, rather than a main use.
Why buy a standalone if youâre not really wanting to dump the computer⌠![]()
The one doesnât necessarily have anything to do with the other. I havenât used a computer in the traditional sense for many years. Djay in particular stands for not being limited to a computer, but using what you already have with you: your smartphone. Itâs like a USB stick. You connect it to a standalone device and access the music stored on it. Itâs no different with a smartphone; you can also connect it to access your music. And on top of that, you get the opportunity to use Djay with all the features that Engine DJ doesnât (yet) offer.
Technically, of course, itâs not 100% standalone, but as long as you prefer Djay, itâs a very good compromise. And if Engine DJ eventually enables stems on the fly and, above all, the option to prepare your tracks and playlists on mobile devices and then use them directly with the controller, you can reconsider switching completely.
True and to be clear, after the tedious stems set up process on the engine desktop software, standalone mode is a game changer especially with the mixstream pro go version with a built in battery plus the built in speakers that get pretty loud for what it is. Even with the sd card instead of a usb drive I donât even have to worry about some stick out the back that to get knocked off when Iâm just using it on the couch or sitting down somewhere. Itâs a pretty slick device.
That being said, functionality wise, there are some areas where engineos is really far behind djay pro and itâs worth it to at least use my phone instead of engineos.
I know with traktor controllers you can boot them into computer mode. With the mixstream you have to first turn it on then reboot again into computer mode when I want to use it with djay pro. Itâs a little annoying. They should at least let us boot directly into âdjay proâ mode lol
One area where djay pro is way ahead of engineos is stems. As far as on the fly stems processing I donât see that happening at least on the older engineos controllers that have old processors. Also in engineos you can only use stems on songs that have manually been pre rendered and songs that you have local copies of. Stems donât work on streaming services like tidal, like they do with djay pro.
I do love the all in one setup but djay pro is so much better im willing to have a mostly all in one setup with my phone especially if the waveforms come to the screen like the rane system one. In theory itâs midi mode + hijacking the screen.
I hope Djay support will bring songtrack preview feature like in Engine OS mode.
SERATO support doesnât have this feature
Thanks for checking in. Unfortunately, support for this hardware has been delayed as we need to work further with RANE on a firmware update before we can offer proper compatibility. Thanks for understanding. Iâll share more news when I have it.
So Iâm still completely confused. Will the screens work if I use DJ Pro or not? Regardless of whether I use an ipad, MAC or PC? I want to get this unit today but Iâm torn between parting my MCX8000 which DJ pro doesnt support and be stuck with this new unit and still get nothing accomplished.
Appreciate clarity from this forum. Thx
Hi @Joaquin_Fagundo, we canât say 100% for sure until official support is confirmed. However, it seems likely that screens will be supported on MacOS, iOS and Windows. To be safe, I recommend you wait on your purchase until after official support is confirmed and the details are released. I hope that helps!
Hope nothing has change drastically..
Weâll know more when itâs readyâŚ
Thanks. I purchased the unit and have 14 days to figure it out. As of right now, out of the box, it doesnât even get recognized by djay pro. Iâm on Mac and there isnât any option for this to work, even the controller doesnât recognize it being connected. However, works perfect on Serato. So I think any video out there is a future look into what it might be able to do but who knows when it will happen.. Algoriddim gave the same song and dance story for the Denon MCX8000 and eventually dropped it and left everyone hanging.
Youâre welcome. Thanks for the follow up @Joaquin_Fagundo.
The firmware for the new version on both the InMusic and Algroriddim side is likely being tested.
Would you prefer they released it without full testing and sign off, containing bugs, just to meet a timeline?
Have you really bought a standalone DJ system in the hope that Algoriddim will release their software update (and Rane release updated firmware) within the next two weeks, or youâll send the unit back? ![]()
Why not? At least youâll be right there at the start when it begins. ![]()
