Reloop Mixon 8 Issues

iOS 18.0 on M1 iPad Pro; Djay Pro v5.2.3; Mixon 8 firmware 5339

Newbie to DJ Controllers. Went for Mixon 8 pro. Loving Djay Pro and 4 decks on iOS.

However, I am having some issues with the left-hand-side pads. The bottom left green only seems to occasionally work. And then seems to randomly trigger without being touched. Also hot cue behaviour of the other left-hand side pads is different to the right-hand-side. With the deck not playing, randomly they will autoplay when hotcued. Then behave normally: moving to cue point but and holding. The right-hand-side behaves normally consistently.

Also I am finding that sometimes the left-hand-side play button requires two taps to play which surely can’t be right?! (right-hand-side behaves normally: single tap to play / pause).

I am on the latest firmware, 5339, and am using the latest Djay Pro v5.2.3. I have reached out to both Reloop and my vendor but have yet to get responses. I was wondering if the issues I am experiencing align with those I understand some others have experienced with this controller.

Hi here, sticky pads is a known issue. Rub the pads around with your finger a few times. This should free them up. With play button not sure about that one. Hope your pads free up properly.

Thanks @Dysfunk_DJ, that’s helpful. When you say a “known issue” do you mean specifically on the Mixon8, or with performance pads on controllers generally? I tried your suggested fix and it hasn’t worked for me (probs not got the magic finger rub right).

It’s on the Reloop website as well. I had a couple of sticky pads. I rubbed my finger or thumb around the edges, quite firm. Did the trick for me on that issue.

Thanks for the solution on this one @Dysfunk_DJ.

Hi @HenleyBranch, please confirm if that solved your issue. Thanks!

It has not unfortunately. Following the guidance has made it work occasionally. Can’t upload a video to share of what this looks like but the bottom left performance pad sometimes work, but usually doesn’t.

I have raised two tickets with Reloop, and have received a response stating they will not be able to respond at the pace they normally would (that was two weeks ago).

Okay thanks for the follow up @HenleyBranch. Sorry that didn’t fix your issue. Since this is most likely a hardware issue, your best option is to continue working with Reloop.

So I’ve been having some issues with the Mixon 8 performance pads and one of the play pause buttons. It’s been back to the supplier this week, they tested it and found it to be working perfectly normally.

The issues I have are with the left-hand side of the deck, specifically the play/pause button and some of the performance pads, specifically the lower left one. I am using the latest versions of DjayPro on both iPad and Mac and the Mixon8Pro firmware is up-to-date.

On the left hand deck the play/pause button can start itself without being pressed if the surface on which the Mixon8Pro sits is vibrated, i.e. without being touched. It then requires two taps to stop it. This only happens with the left hand play/pause button, not the right. See here.

Similarly the performance pads behave normally on the right hand side of the deck: i.e as hot cues if the deck is stopped and the pad is held it starts from the cue point and plays until released. But on the left-hand side the pads when pressed start at the cue, but then carry on playing when released until the play/pause button is hit. Weirdly at some point they will start behaving like the right-hand side of the deck as normal, and then they go wrong again. This fault is therefore intermittent. See here

The lower left performance pad (green in hot cue mode) tends not to work at all, or only works sometimes, and then sometimes engages without being touched at all. See here

The testing by the supplier in the video sent back to me this week showed the pads and the play/pause button working normally. (My suspicion is they tested it with Serato but I have yet to confirm this with them.) I have tested on both MacOS and iOS versions of djay pro and it is the same. See here.

I bought this deck in August, and it has been like this from the start. Initially, as I am new to digital decks, I thought it was me screwing up my mixing, so I didn’t immediately return it. But I now realise it is either the hardware or the software / hardware interface. Or it is my ignorance and the way I am using it (which is what the supplier is suggesting, see below). May well be. Whatever it is, the issues make the deck basically unusable.

I have reached out to Reloop but several times weeks ago when I first indentified the issue and finally received a response a few days ago referring me to their support article about pressing down hard on the pads to ‘reset’ them. I had already found that and tried it. That hasn’t worked.

The suppliers returned it to me this week in full working order as far as they are concerned, with a video here where the controller is clearly working. They are suggesting it isn’t working for me because of the way I am using the controller. I tried their suggestion of turning Quantize off, but it hasn’t made any difference.

Any advice would be gratefully received. Slightly at a loss as to what to do next with this. @Slak_Jaw you have a Mixon 8, what do you think? (sorry for the long post but trying to explain the issue)

Hi,

I also had problems with the Mixon 8 Pro and the Play/Pause and Hotcues and I had my controller being replaced, but that didn’t solve the issue fully.

The main problem of the Hot Cues is that some of them are too sensitive and others are insensitive. Also intermittent. And as for the play/pause concers; I still have to get used to that (also) because it very much depends on where on the button you hit. It is the safest to hit the middle than you have the best change of working well.

In mine opinion it’s hardware issue, but you could test it by using e.g. RekordBox or Traktor instead of DJay.

Btw; there is already a lot been said about this (also by me) in this thread (and I think the answer from Reloop by saying it’s a quantize issue is BS, because the isn’t any sign of it):

Thanks for the responses. My supplier has tested it with Serato and the issues do not present themselves, suggesting it is some sort of hardware / software issue.

Hi @HenleyBranch, I’ve merged your new topic with this existing one to help keep the conversation organized as this sounds related to other issues users have reported. This really sounds like a hardware issue. When you say the “supplier” did you send this back to Reloop directly or to one of their resellers? If it wasn’t Reloop, have you shared any of the above information directly with Reloop? Have you tried using a different USB cable? Thanks!
