I’d like to ask for few enhancements of the Sampler functionality:
Ability to re-record/replace the contents of a sample slot as MIDI mappable action. The most straight-forward implementation I can think of is to take the output from the CUE (Headphones) bus. The recording time can be the time the button remains pressed. Quantized length will be cool and useful but complicated to be made through the Cue bus approach. And if/when we get Wet FX signal in the CUE bus, it would be awesome to quickly capture and play processed wet sound streams as samples.
A new “Toggle Sample X Playback” action capable of both Starting & Stopping a sample with a single MIDI command. Currently, we have two separate Sample Start & Sample Stop MIDI commands for the Sample Slots, and that eats both a button and a Shift+button mapping for each pad. It would be more useful to have the Shift action capturing new content in the sample slot, given that Start & Stop can be handled by a single Toggle command.
The ability to pre-listen the Sampler and the Looper outputs in the Headphones before bringing the audio to the Main mix. This is best to be MIDI mappable too.
Sample slots “loop” mode if possible. Not sure if it’s worth to have a MIDI command for this, perhaps not, as it it can be easily done on the screen.
You can start & stop, but they are two separate actions and need available buttons, or a shift+, for the stopping action. This is a bit unnecessary, as it can easily be made to start & stop from the same command. Either way, the samples are currently single shot, with no looping capability, so it will end even if you don’t have a stop mapped to a button.
And yes, the above 4 points will significantly improve the usability and applicability of the sampler feature. Thanks for supporting the request!
Thanks for the suggestions @Kaloyan. I will share these with the dev team. Some of your points have been suggested before so please go add your votes on them:
Indeed they are, thanks for pointing it out @Slak_Jaw !
And I did some search to find relevant topics
Many people are asking for the pre-cueing option for the Looper & the sampler. And your ask to route it to a channel/deck makes a lot of sense too. If channel routing is to be implemented, it would make sense to be able to set the channel source to Track/Looper/Sampler/Microphone. FXing the Mic with ability to sample it on the fly would be valuable. But I think this is a distinct request on it’s own.
It’s good to see how many people are interested and asking for improvements of the Sampler. Pity that there’s no easy/right way to consolidate the posts with the union of the request points and unite the votes for cleaner visibility. Interesting to see how many things have been done for the Sampler by Algoriddim, but due to those small missing things, it’s still not ready for real use as performance tool in a live environment.
