Search Field - keyboard loses focus and accidentally initiates hot keys

Here is the link: Strange Bug Traktor S2 & djayPro

I’m typing on my macbook’s keyboard.
Never had any issues in other apps

Thanks @Timo_Fielker. I’ll have to pass this onto our engineering team to see if they can replicate this on their end and offer any suggestions. I’ll report back when I hear back. Thanks!

Thank you! For now I just found out that I can disable all shortcuts on the keyboard. So it won’t affect a running mix.

It also appears to happen in slower WiFi connections more often, like it needs to think a moment then jumps out and then shows first tidal suggestions for the two or three letters that I just typed in.

You’re welcome. Interesting observation regarding WiFi.

  1. Does this issue only happen with the Tidal search field or also with the Local Music search field?
  2. Is it possible that you are accidentally touching any controls on your MIDI controller when this happens. I was able to replicate the issue by touching the Browse knob on my controller which causes the cursor to jump out of the search field.

I have posted about this in another thread - i think that it applies here as well!

Ive been having similar issues for awhile now myself - when using the search box (in apple music) it will take me out of the search box while i’m typing - causing all kinds of havoc when hotkeys are now being inadvertently pressed. I thought maybe i was typing too fast, or maybe it was acting up if my internet connection was weak and it couldnt search properly - but it has been hard to pinpoint! I haven’t been able to intentionally cause this to happen, so I’ve just been typing very carefully - but it still happens quite often!

This behavior doesn’t present itself when i am searching my own (local) files, only when i am utilizing apple music.

And like your problem - It does occasionally just log me out of apple music as well, requiring me to log back in and link my apple music account - sometimes more than once per session!

I haven’t had the time to try and make a screen capture of what is going on, so i’m glad someone else has spoken up!

If there is anything i can do to help test things, please let me know!

Hi @mp3juggle, I’ve moved you other post over here. For now, I recommend that you disable the hot keys during your live gigs like @Timo_Fielker has done to prevent accidental behavior.

Thanks for the tip - I do use the keyboard shortcuts most of the time though (I rarely use an external controller) - but just disabling the space bar shortcut would probably be enough for now!

Thanks for the quick response, and your efforts!

Hey! It also happens without a controller connected, but I will test my browse knob right away.

@mp3juggle somehow I’m glad I’m not the only one  But this is a much greater issue when you are actually using hotkeys on the keyboard.

You’re welcome @mp3juggle

Okay my browse knob is a very loose one by now, but it only jumps out of the search field when I turn the knob clock wise and it jumps to the first song under the search field. When the explained issue happens it jumps nowhere. So I think it does not have anything to do with the browse knob. And it also happens without a controller connected. In my normal library it does not happen but i rarely use it these last few Months. The issue appeared for the first time after the recent update to 5.2.6

Thanks for checking and the additional info @Timo_Fielker. This is very helpful.

Interesting topic!

In the beginning, I also struggled with all the shortcuts. After accidentally pressing a shortcut during a gig a few times, I discovered that there are actually quite a lot of them. I eventually ended up drastically reducing the number of active shortcuts.

Now, I only use the Spacebar for previewing the selected track, the left and right arrow keys for moving forward and backward in previews, and one hotkey for toggling the library expansion. This setup is sufficient for me and works much more conveniently and trouble-free.

I actually believe that Djay shouldn’t enable these shortcuts by default without informing new or inexperienced users about them. It can lead to significant issues during performances. My suggestion would be to leave them deactivated by default and allow users to enable them as needed.

Well, thats the thing - Ive been using this program for years, mostly controller-less, 4 or 5 nights a week!

This behavior has started happening within the last month.

The first time or two I chalked it up as me just fat fingering it, or palming the touchpad or something… but every so often I actually catch it (the red outline in the apple music search box) disappear after typing letters - but not pressing any other keys.

I also considered it may a hardware problem, like my keyboard was malfunctioning - but i have seen it happen with my bluetooth keyboard as well. I also haven’t seen any signs of it in other programs (office apps, notes etc).

I like using the keyboard shortcuts, and consider them pretty essential - but I do need to sit down and customize them a little bit, I have just been using them as-is.

Anyhow, thanks for chiming in on the potential issue!

So I had another gig last night. Thanks to deactivated shortcuts on the keyboard confidence is totally back! I had about 6 encounters of the issue last night. Again the observation is that the club WiFi is not that great so the issue appears to be there more often.

Is there any news to it?
Best,
Timo

Thanks for the additional info @Timo_Fielker. I have passed this onto the engineering team.

I have an update on this issue! I seemed to have found a way to make it happen…

When you search something in apple music it is fine, but if you click “show all songs” or go into any other “folder” (album/artist/playlist etc.) in the results of the search and then try and search again (click back into the search box and type a few letters) - thats when the search box becomes deactivated! The attached video shows me doing this just now - hopefully this helps?

Thanks for the additional info and video @mp3juggle. This is very helpful!

Hey! Yes that is the issue! But on my setup I don’t need to go to “show all songs” it just does the same error in the first step and on tidal. Thanks for the video @mp3juggle

I have the same problem since the last update of Djaypro.
It runs on a MacBookPro M1 2021 (16Gb RAM, still on Monterrey), i use two controllers an old Numark MixTrackPro3 and a Quneo for triggering loops, neural mix, extra cue points etc. I always disable the keyboard shortcuts cause very often I ran Ableton Live and Volta on the same machine (i still dont believe that this little laptop stands firm with no bugs running stream stem separation/video generation/extra instruments and recording in real time!). But i’ve noticed that (even when i’m just running djay pro with a good connection) the search field for tidal looses the focus, it’s very anoying but i can live with that … this started to happen with the last two updates.
