Support for Pioneer DJ DDJ-XP2

Hi @zavo, thanks for checking in. I don’t have any news to share on this. When that changes, I will let you know here.

Hi again @zavo, I spoke with engineering again this morning, and after further review unfortunately, this is not something they can easily do while guaranteeing a good experience with the XP1 controller.

Hi @Slak_Jaw, thank you very much for clarification. So it looks like there will be no fast solution. Are there any chances the support for XP1 will be added somewhere in the future, or do you rather think this will not happen, as this controller is considered legacy?

It’s ok if you cannot answer this, I’m only asking as I would consider exchanging XP1 for XP2 then, or keep an eye out for some more recent DVS add-on controller, possibly with direct stem support. Who knows if XP3 is not already on it’s way?

You’re welcome @zavo, I don’t know for sure, but I suspect support for the XP1 is unlikely at this point.

I’m coming from Serato DJ Pro and I want to give Djay Pro AI a chance maybe to switch over… So I’m very confused, how the engineering team worked on that… Leaving some pads blank, a lot of pads… hmmm ok, but:

1.) Why are the pads so different to the mapping of the S11?
2.) Were are the STEMS Neural Buttons? I’m still searching a description, how they are mapped and what I can do. But where is this it?

When a company announces that they’ve implemented a new controller, I’m happy and think it’s intuitive and fully exploits the potential of the controller in conjunction with the software. Such a mapping should be at least as good (and actually even better) than that of Serato or Pioneer, so that the user is completely blown away and truly delighted. That’s how you could win customers… But this mapping seems to me more like some apprentice halfway through their work deciding that this is it and that they can use it for advertising purposes. Personally, I’m disappointed by this half-finished work.

Hi @djscode, sorry for the delayed response. I had to check in with our hardware team on this since I don’t have access to this specific device. Thanks for your feedback by the way.

  • Neural Mix is in the bottom half of Pad Mode 7 (Shift + Pad Mode 3). The orange row turns single STEMS On/Off, the white row Solos individual STEMS
  • In general, we map each device to what we consider the most useful in combination with djays features. The XP2 is mapped very differently between Rekordbox and Serato to fit each of those apps, and we tried to do the most useful thing for djay as well.
  • This controller is an especially challenging situation, because most of it’s surface is pads don’t have labels for the pad modes (it just says Pad Mode 1/2/3/4…). I hope that helps!

Just wanted to hop in to say that now that we have 16 cue points, they seem to automatically be mapped to the DDJ XP2 (currently on Windows, haven’t checked the other devices yet) kudos to the team on this one. Because the implementation I saw made me question how I was going to map it.
