Recursive import of the Music Folders - iOS

Can we please get recursive import of the music folders into the track library?

Currently, iTunes is most reasonable way to manage music library in sync across devices. This is not ideal for me, and I really want to use iCloud Drive with offline (Keep Downloaded) to sync and manage my media files. We do have “Add All to Playlist” option, but only for the files in a folder. That means that I can go folder by folder, and that’s virtually impossible for folders organized by Artist->Album.

My use case is that I manage my library on the MacOS or Windows. Tagging, Grouping, Colors, etc.. At times, I move it to the iPad. So ater the move, I need to fix the file referrences. Currently, I do it by importing an iTunes playlist “All”, having all my tracks. Similar goes the other way around - moving the library from the iPad to the Mac. I again need to fix referrences of track entries to actual files, again through iTunes.

Now Lexicon DJ is adding djay support. This brings great power for library & playlist management to the world of djay. But it can’t work well with if my files are linked to iTunes IDs (which are also per device). I want to have my workflow using files on iCloud Drive for storing the media (w/ Keep Downloaded), and not iTunes. For the Windows & Android, it would likely make most sense to do it with Google Drive with Offline storage. With LXC, we can import and export libarries (and sync updates between devices in both directions) as we wish, but with iTunes in the middle, there are many negative implications - we’d better have a way to use the file system for media storage directly.

Please, let us make the import from the file structure, and don’t force us to cound on iTunes & Apple Music for syncing. They are just not as reliable as direct file access is.

Also note that with LXC joining the show, it will open Djay to many DJs with Traktor/Serato/VDJ libraries, which are all file based. Many would love to play with Djay on iOS, but need a proper workflow for library management and syncing at Pro level. A simple recursive import capability would resolve many of the limitations preventing us to establish cross-device library migration workflows.

Well formulated @Kaloyan! I wholeheartedly support this. The ability to import recursively from local file system, or just point out the audio files root folder would be awesome.

When I wanted to vote for this I was out of votes. So I went to remove another vote, and noticed that I have already voted for 2 very similar requests, and for some of the more general “sync media database between devices” requests that have been standing for years now.

For reference, here are 2 other requests for adding/relinking from a root folder:

And here are the big sync-all-the-things threads:

Thanks for the detailed feedback @Kaloyan and @nso. This is very helpful! I will be sure to share this with the dev team.

I really hope this come.

LXC generated library on MacOS with iCloud files is not usable on the iPad when I upload my music through iTunes (Apple Music). The references simply don’t get updated. Importing from Files does work, but I have large part of my library in Artist/Album/track format. I’m stuck to AM, and that’s very limiting.

Without recursive import on iOS, it’s virtually impossible to switch to iCloud Drive media library. This is truly needed to port/migrate our MacOS created libraries to iPads outside of the iTunes (limited) approach. I need my Groupping, Color and the other custom fields which are only available in the djay library, not through iTunes playlists.

@Slak_Jaw , can you please update the title of the topic to have “on iOS” at the end? Editing is locked for me.

Title updated @Kaloyan
